Thumbs down Ultima Aftermarket Starters Beware

Recently purchased an "Ultima Thunderfire" 1.75W Chrome starter for my 2009 Street Glide. I was previously warned by two Harley mechanics that I would be lucky if it lasted anywhere from 6 months to a year. I, unfortunately did not take their advice. I installed it only to have the shaft fail on a start up after less than 4 months. The shaft broke in half (cheap friggin chinese metal) and fell into my primary compartment and took two teeth off my ring gear. Damage to inside the primary was in the $1000 range. So a warning, don't buy this aftermarket junk! I tried to contact the distributor (Midwest Motorcycle Supply) and didn't even get a response. They will tell you they are a wholesaler and only deal with businesses. So my tough, luck the dealer I bought it off is closed and out of business. Anyone else had a similar situation. Lesson learned: Buy only OEM Harley parts!

I've used the 2.0KW version for 3 years on my Jim's 131. So far no problems with it.
