That gauge is a perfect fit...the bezel is black and I thought of the chrome rings from HD, but the dash is clean w/o those things and I'd prefer not to have any additional glare (i.e., the gas cap cover throws enough sun around!) Besides that, the black is barely noticeable and if it is noticed, so will the way cool addition of the oil temp gauge!

You guys make it sound sooooo easy. Well I need help in locating 2 fasteners. 7 of these guys supposedly hold on the outer fairing on an EGlide. 3 on the windshield, 2 on the inner fairing (upper portion left/right). Where are the other 2 fasteners located???

They are pretty well hidden. Location is just near the lower part of the triple tree, where the upper fork bells (covers) meet the clamp. If you crank the handlebars over to one side and shine a flashlight in there, you will see the screw (Torx head).
BTW...Do not overtighten any of these fairing screws. They are threaded into a brass insert that is just pressed into the plastic. You can pull them out quite easily by accident.

Another Question: Is is necessary to drain the oil to thread the sensor into the proper location? Also, can the wire be threaded under the fuel tank instead of along the bottom right frame rail? With a sidecar hanging on the right side, it looks to be a real pain in the a--!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I had no trouble removing the plug and QUICKLY inserting the sending unit. Just lost about 2 oz of oil. Cold oil flow slow and its COLD here!LOL
I also ran the wire down the left side. Didn't like the way it looked ty-rapped the down tube so I slipped it in a black vinyl sheath (kinda like shrink wrap but it doesn't shrink) and followed the clutch line down then along the left side frame rail.
My question to anyone else who has this gauge is it suppose to nest to the right? All the other stock needles nest to the left. Anyway around that?

Spent 3 hours this afternoon during the snow storm in the east and installed the oil temp guage. I noticed my guage nested to the right till I applied power, then it nests to the left like all the other guages. Maybe a check of wiring is in order or connections. To say the least, it is a tight fit with not much room to work or make mistakes. I didn't start it to see if temp registers, just too cold in an unheated shed. Maybe spring will come, sure doesn't look like it this evening.

Mine did the same thing. Stayed on the left after applying power. Took it for a ride and it read fine (after a way long warm-up) It wasn't till I pulled it in the garage and shut the bike off that the needle went to the right.
Funny up-date! Just ran out the garage just to check and turned power on to the bike. The gauge returned left and stayed there after I turned it off. Snowing here too so I guess I'll have to wait till this white crap goes away to test it again.
FYI. It took a long time for the gauge to start responding. So long I started to think it was defective. Maybe I was just anxious.

I got curious today as to why my gauge kept nesting to the right after a ride and the bike was shut off. So I went about going over the whole install. After a ride so the needle was at the right I took the fairing off and started to go over everything.
Now I had swapped my volt gauge for the useless air temp gauge and put the oil gauge where the volt gauge was so its easy to disconnect the wires and pull the gauge out. I had half expected some kind of back feed or pinched wire but when I unwired pulled the gauge out the needle slowly fell back towards the left. After making sure all the wiring was ok and rerouting it a bit I started to put the gauge back in the fairing. Well the needle started to rise to the right again and I didn't even have the wires back on it yet! Then I figured it out. I have new Hogtunes speakers (they're great BTW) and they have monstrous magnets on them. That was what was pulling the needle over to the right. Power it on and the gauge nests left fine. So now what to do? I separated the ignition on from the gauge and left for the light. Then ran a wire from the hot going to the switch to the gauge so its powered all the time. Now it nest to the right but I think thats because its cool now. It will read the engine temp all the time. Don't know if I like that but I know I didn't like it all ways pinned to the right. Maybe a relay to break the sender wire?
Anyway, if you have the Hogtune or some other up grade speakers that maybe your problem too...
