Two weeks before Hurricane Katrina I bought my girlfriend a near perfect cb125, that bike was absolutely mint. After being submerged in 8 feet of water for a week the amount of damage was shocking! The corrosion, rust and grime had taken over every inch of that bike, I literally cried.
After seeing first hand the amount of damage that can be done by flood waters I wouldn't take a flood salvage bike for free!
If you are seriously considering it, make sure to see a detailed record of what was replaced when rebuilt, if they cant provide that then run!
There is also damage one can't see. A frame isn't water tight, it'll fill with the water it is submerged in. If it's salt water, corrosion from inside out will be the result, you won't know it until something breaks or rots through.
i apologize if im jacking this thread but wanted to ask what is the difference between a SPECO title and Salvage. Im assuming "Special Construction" bikes went thru the process of getting a state issued VIN and passing the class 1 to 3 inspection.
i think SPECO bikes hold better value than salvage or is it in the same par as regular clean titles? please correct if im wrong.
