So I just installed the Vance and Hines slip-ons (no intake or fuel management) on my 06 RKS and I was a bit surprised on how loud they are. Man those stockers are really are quiet Anyway, the bike does run great, but I do get some minor decal pops so I'm contemplating getting a new intake with fuel management (not sure which ones yet). My question is, will adding the new intake and fuel management make the bike any louder? Was anyone else surprised how loud the Vance and Hines slip'ons are or is it just me [&o]
The intake and the fuel management will give it a different tone but not really noticably louder. More fuel /air in and more exhaust out will change the tone.
I can't attest for your situation exactly but I can say that with mine, and an improperly tweaked map did make a difference in the sound of my pipes, too loud. Using the latest map(SERT) with different timings and all is good and quiet again. I wouldn't have believed it had it not been my bike I'm talking about.[&:]
EDIT: I gave you the longwinded version of what glide just stated.
Louder... NO... Would HIGHLY Recommend - Ness Big Sucker (with the chrome backing plate (E-Bay$$)) & V&H FuelPak (again E-Bay$$)... Don't get no easier then a FuelPak & they work well - THEN YOU'LL SEE A BIG DIFFERANCE in performance - responce & overall enjoyment... Time to install both maybe 1.5 hrs (time includes a beer or 2 (lol))
Well that's certianly promising. Thanks for the feedback! Looks like I too will probably invest in a new intake and fuel management sooner that I thought. Why stop now[sm=biker.gif].

Sounds good SoCal_Pappy, I did have my eye on the fuel pack since I plan on only using Vance and Hines pipes anyway, plus I have heard good things about it. I'm still debating the Ness Big Sucker...but it's on the chopping block
I just put on a set of V&H ovals (RK w/Stage 1), definitely louder. Problem now is, OL says it is too loud for her to wanna ride. So what you guys are sayin' is if you re-map or get fuel-pak type device you get quieter tone???
I have the same problem RK..with a Fuel Pack and the Ness filter.I have been looking for a solution to quiet them down....baffle mods etc, and so far no luck.

Damn! I'd really hate to get rid of the Vance and Hines, I just love the looks and durabilty.
