The wire runs down the top of the dash behind the GPS, and enters the fairing at the inner/outer split. I made a notch to run the wire between the halves. I have a "Gunsmoke" Windvest, so you can't see the wire from the outside.
I bought part number 76000537 from the dealer. Stuck my Magellan cradle to it. Got a short usb car charger and ran the usb cable to the cigarette lighter. $40 total.
I bought my mount from eglidegoodies, who have stacks of options.
If you ride solo only then where you put your gps is entirely down to taste. On my bike I located mine off to the right, for various practical reasons, then found later that Mrs B can see it easily over my shoulder while we're riding. So we both navigate now, using the intercom, a worthwhile thing when in heavy traffic or unfamiliar roads.
Good luck with the mount you bought, if it doesn't work out I also recommend you look at the T&TFab mounts. No holes to drill and it put's the nav right under your line of site, mines wired inside the fairing to my power outlet.
