RE: difference between Street GLide and Electra Glide Standard?
ORIGINAL: Lightngsvt
First, Im not entirely sure Im ready for a touring bike yet, but I have always loved the look of the Street Glide. It seems the EG Standard looks very similar to the SG, so what is the differences between the 2 (options, suspension, etc)? It seems that the EG standard could be the way to go as it is ~$2400 cheaper.
I just went from an 05 FXDI (Dyna Super Glide) to an 07 FLHT (Electra Glide Standard)I am tickled to death with the Standard. If you likecruising alot of miles on two wheels the touring bike is the way to go, like going from a Dodge Dart to a Cadillac. The Comfort is good andthehandling is better than the SG. The Standard is a good looking bike too!

Never understood Harley's pricing system..look at Street-Glide vs. E-Glide CLASSIC, They taka an E-GClassic,strip off the spotlamps, the Tour-Pak,($1000.00 set-up!) the saddlebag guards, rear floor boards(pegs instead) and the fender lights, lower it 1 inch, and then charge about the same price..[sm=dontgetit.gif]
RE: difference between Street GLide and Electra Glide Standard?
Like it was said before. I would never compare the EG Standard and the StreetGlide. Compare the StreetGlide to the EG Classic. If you get a bagger you will want a radio, thats about a grand right there.

If it was as simple as just stripping the EGC down then I could understand but it isn't. I bought the SG because to me it looks 10X better. The SG seat is different, front and rear fenders are different, paint schemes are different, rear turn signal and plate mount, consoles are different, and of course the streamliner stuff that I prefer over the plain black rubber inserts on the EGC. It's all about preference and if I bought I an EGC and decided to make it IDENTICAL to my Street Glide, I would have WAY more than the cost of a tourpack involved. I don't need passing lamps or a big tourpack. I also don't want passenger pegs. I liked the style of the SG more than the EGC and that is what it comes down to in the end.
RE: difference between Street GLide and Electra Glide Standard?
Heres what a SG looks like with a detachable chopped tour pak...I like it. (disclaimer: tour pak only for long overniters, or running with passengers)
Black engine, lots of chrome, streamliner boards and pegs, nicer gauge package, low profile w/s, MP3 stereo, blacked out or removed trim, rear suspension 1" lower, sleeker seat, nice console. If you like those things, you can't go wrong with the SG.
RE: difference between Street GLide and Electra Glide Standard?
You can make an Electra Glide into a Streetglide easier and cheaper than you can make a Streetglide into an Electra Glide. I can say that so many add the frontlights, tourpacks etc to their Streetglide and very few strip their Electra Glide. A lot of people don't like the factory shocks and go with Progressive's anyway so suspension is irrelivent. You can buy the chrome or tour packs on e-bay pretty cheap...so that shouldn't be a deciding factor. Go with the one you like. Again if you went with Electra Glide and don't want tourpack, front lights, rear crash bars, they are all easy to sell on e-bay and you would be money ahead in my opinion.
RE: difference between Street GLide and Electra Glide Standard?
Madav8trI think you be missin the point. A fender is a fender, and a seat is a seat, they maybe different on the 2 bikes, but it don't cost harley much difference whichever one they put on the bike when it's built, looks is subjective(I think the S-glide looks like it needs the spotlamps up front personally), but if you look at the actual equipment that is put on the bike the E-Glide classic gets more everything! More chrome, more paint, more lighting, more storage, etc,etc....then they price it the same as a bike with so much less equipment...It's like the Heritage softail vs. the Fatboy, Heritage gave a lot more for basically same price(windshield, full bags).
RE: difference between Street GLide and Electra Glide Standard?
Since you mentioned the Heritage, how does a Heritage compare? I guess the oinly fair comparison would be to the Road King classic?
Thanks for all the info guys. Since I ride solo I dont need / want the Tourpack, also the air temp an oil pressure gauges arent deal breakers either. The radio Im not sure of, it might just be a distraction? I do like the rear "fender" and light bar better on the SG, as well as the black and chrome engine, but really the silver and polished engine ont he EGS looks pretty decent to me as well. Is there some reason a local stereo shop could just put in a stereo and 2 speakers if I ended up wantiong them? Im sure it would be ALOT less than going to the dealer.
I am really into the Softail deluxe but at $18k+ it seems one of the Touring bikes would be a better deal. How are these bikes for commuting to work, running to the "corner store", riding around town, etc? And at 34 am I even allowed to own a 'Glide?
