Default V&H rusting

After having my V&H black pro pipe on my Streetglide for about 4 months I noticed the heat shields were surface rusting and looked like the black finish was wearing off. V&H wouldn't return emails about it. Figured I'd have my powder coat guy refinish em. Didn't get to it last winter so I finally pulled em off. The setup has been on the bike for 2 riding seasons. Stored indoors in the winter and when not being rode. The slip on looked horrible when I saw the bottom. Clamps just about as bad.

Try using Vance/Hines customer service chat feature, on their website. Instant contact, though you may wait for a rep for 5-10 minutes. Or, give them a call. Should be rusting like that.

My black dresser duals look nearly the same. I think the black finish is substandard, and the kicker is vance and hines has no touch-up paint or possible suggestions. Good Luck!

Bike gets washed as needed. Sometimes a quick low.pressure car wash sometimes a full detail. It never gets very dirty though

A painted pipe will rust like that, especially when the pipe gets pretty hot.

One would like to think that for what it costs V&H would use more than bbq paint on their stuff.

I just stick with chrome exhaust as this happened to me a couple of times. It was not to the extreme that you have but pretty bad , and In the end I was left assss'd out. Black finish is less resilient than chrome in most cases. Moisture can play a big part in that pitting as well do you keep a fan on your bike.

That sucks and yeah it looks awful, what's worse (I could be wrong) is V&H probably won't do anything about it if it's been through a couple seasons. That's exactly why I never liked any exhaust powder-coated, I don't care what you paint it with ... it will never be as durable as chrome, but I know some of you love the blacked-out look and that is the price you pay (not trying to sound like d!ck). If V&H doesn't step up for you, sandblast everything and maybe try hi-temp POR-15 yourself, good to 1200* ... they make really good stuff and I think you can even buy spray bombs. I never used it personally, but a buddy of mine restored an old Nova years ago and painted all the wheel wells with black POR-15 and it looked awesome ... tough stuff too, check it out.
