You're right about the old lady, she's gonna love the new ride. My buddy's Wide Glide crapped a battery on a trip, his wife road with me to buy a new battery. By the time we got back he had his approval to buy a touring model.
Congratulations.
What made you go with the custom? I had a 2004 RG and now have a 2008 Ultra Classic. Missing the RG and trying to figure out the difference in the RG, RG custom, and RG special. Still not sold on the new fairings (2015/16).
Congratulations. Low mileage used is the way to go. I bought my '03 in '11. It had 2,090 miles. It's been a great bike. Has Stage I, with dealer flash. Don't stomp on the rear brake, in panic stops, or you'll lock up the rear and the rear will slide forward.
I took the Rider's Edge Skilled Rider's Course, after a couple of those. It is a good course.
Congratulations.

I had always liked the looks of the RG and for the longest time I wanted the RG Special just because I thought all the infotainment **** was pretty cool, and I still do, but I just found my custom and fell in love with it when I saw it and test rode it.
I think in 2012 HD only offered the custom and the ultra. I could be wrong there. So maybe the custom was just the name for the standard RG at the time.
I don't think the changes in the fairings is too drastic. I know there's more venting and such.
My finance guy rides a 12 Rg too and said if I test rode a '16 RG, I wouldn't think the '12 was so hot. Meh, I love it. I don't care if the fairing storage area lids are cheesy lol.
I took it on the highway last night and was in pure heaven. I need to take more pics when it's daytime, can't see the flames at all.
