Default Handle bar installation

Just installed new 14" bars I went to put on the clutch and brake controls and there isn't a recess for the external wiring like on the original bars any suggestions besides internally wiring them I'd like to leave them externally wired thanks any suggestions appreciated.

I don't understand that response from a quality mechanic. I soldered my own wire extensions and ran the internally. Yes, I would have to take apart the bars if there's a problem. But it's a few wires. Point A to Point B. What sort of problem is he afraid of? Maybe you should get another opinion from a second mechanic.

I'd keep next Saturday open and pull the new bars and run the wires internally. In the long run you will be much better off then grinding a notch in your controls for the external wires.

+1 , I did the same. I do not understand why any mechanic would suggest to keep the wires external.

Thanks for all your responses I guess in the past he has seen problems with the Tbw and was trying to save me some bs down the road.. There isn't a lot of room on the right side for all the wires is there.

HD Part #32310-08 is the Screaming Eagle Twist Grip Sensor that doesn't have the green plug and is longer. I just bought one from Surdyke for $85.

Internal wiring and extending wires can be a problem, which pops up regularly around HDF. It's not something I personally would tackle, but I'm surprised that Randy went into this without being prepared. Either buy notched bars for external wires, or set out to wire internally!

Fair point. My bike is not TBW and I've heard that routing the wires through handle bars on bikes that are TBW is sometimes a bit of a pain. But it's also commonplace. As said above, there are lots of threads on this topic. This is where I came to learn what I was getting into when I did it.
