Default Annual service

I was just wondering what annual services people do to their touring bikes. I have a 2006 Electra Glide Classic (Firefighter Ed.). I do the oil, needed or not, plugs and air filter. What else?

Also looking for a great battery that is not HD. Cheers!

I go through everything. Belt adjustment change fluids, brake fluid, clutch adjustment, steering head adjustment etc. Plus it gets a full detail.

=============================

Along with yrly (or before if enough miles) oil & filter change with plugs air filter replacement and or cleaning maint as required i also rec Yrly Trans & primary oil changes too along with running a healthy dose (1.5oz per gal fuel) of Chevron's Techron (Concentrated version) fuel injector / carb & general fuel system cleaner too.

The concentrated Techron also cleans excess carbon & contamination from combustion chambers (pistons & valves & especially backside of intake valves that get gummed up too ) which is a good thing esp for EFI apps helping to keep them free of chk engine & or emission error codes too.

On EFI apps after i do the concentrated Techron clean then the next tank of fuel after that gets a healthy dose of o2 sensor & cat cleaner .

I do that to remove any carbon contamination (that was removed from the comb chambers during prior Techron clean) from the 0'2 sensors and or cat converter if present too ,then your good to go for another.

BTW,if you ride more then avg amount of miles yrly for a bike i'd rec doing a 2nd cleaning just like i rec above because doing do so will the entire fuel system clean of carbon & general dirt & contamination too.

That results in the motor always running at max efficiency with best pwr & fuel mileage while at the same time being less likely to experience check engine & or emission related type chk engine codes too.

I also closely chk cond of drive belt & tension, tries, wheels, battery ,battery cable connections at both ends for tightness and or corrosion along with brake fluid lvl chk and change as required along wit giving the bike a complete once over checking for loose items/bolts/nuts/screws etc and use med/bl loctite (or anti-siez dep on app) on anything i tighten or work on when wrenching the bike too.

Now Batteries:

The 5K service per your owners manual is a good place to start. Most are inspect and adjust.

Log on to the HD website, click on "Owners," and under "Maintain Your Bike" you can click on "Maintenance Schedule," enter your VIN number and mileage, and get a printable service schedule for your bike. Use it as a check list and do the service.

I keep mine pretty simple. Change all fluids at the end of the season, and always due for one oil change around the midpoint of the season. Everything else gets checked on a regular basis throughout the year. I always pay very close attention to the bike during cleaning. Also, don't forget to check your tire air pressure often!

Once a year, all three fluid changes and greasing of steering bearings. Regular checks of tires, spokes, tire pressures and belt condition.

Then I inspect the bike thoroughly while cleaning it throughout the season. Every so often, I'll put a torque wrench on the bike as I'm cleaning.

Air filter every two years, unless it needed changed earlier based upon inspection.

no need to change the plugs every year, i change mine if they make the bike hard starting in the spring. my foam air filter on my 85 has been changed once in 30 years. it gets a gas bath about every 5 years then a re oil and it's good.

It is common for some owners to do more maintenance than is necessary. For example I don't change all oils at every service, only engine and filter. BackRoader's suggestion is worth following up, also get yourself a factory service manual, which tells you all you need to know.
