Default Question About Changing To Lower Handlebars

My participation in the another handlebar thread has prompted this question. I'm posting a new thread so as not to highjack the other thread. This is regarding my desire to swap my 12" bars for lower 10" bars that are identical in every other dimension.

The discussion has made me realize there's something else to consider in changing to the lower bars. If my 12" bars are rolled back to their maximum position and they are just barely within my reach comfort zone (slight elbow bend), doesn't that mean that the same bar in 10" rolled back to the same maximum position would be a longer reach and probably no longer be within my reach comfort zone?

In other words, the 2" shorter bar will not come back as far given the exact same rollback position. Would this be true?

Seems to be true, or at least I'd think so. If your having trouble with the longer bars, shorter ones would make it worse. Unless you invest in a reduced reach seat.

TRUE
Think of a 20" circle and a 24" circle. There's the answer.

Thanks for the replies. It looks like I'll need to look for a change in dimension then too i.e. more pullback.

Depending on your height the answer is could be better or worse. If you are shorter the 10" would probably be better since your arms are out more in front of you instead of trying to reach 2" higher for the 12". It's the relationship of the height of your shoulder and the height of the bar. That make sense?
