As some of you know, my build has not been deliverin what i thought it should...last sat afternoon after many many other teardowns of the fuel system and runnin the parameters on the DTT and every other test me and my buds could come up with...PhilM and Bernie found one of three biggie probs....here's the skinny....i have a R&R 98", 10.8cr, R&R headed monster....i bought an HP Inc 55mm TB to feed it....WHAT A MISTAKE....first off, neither steve at GMR or the HP folks(who drop shipped the TB) sent me the correct flanges....an 06 has different intake flanges than a 01-05....one WONT seal the other...so from gitgo i had a poor seal at best...thats one reason it never would settle down and idle correct....movin the TB around sometimes helped and that was the clue that prompted the find i believe...next, the HP 55 is for a damn race motor, it KILLED the low end and never would just wick on demand(pissed me off to no end)...but last, the HP TB has poor machining between the blade and throat which would not allow proper adjustment on the DTT to 30 IAC when warm....wouldntstart off high enough to correctly meter down as it warmed nomatter what....IMO, a POS...today me, curtis, & paul reinstalled the STOCK 46mm TB....bc the R&R heads are massive i had to get my sawzall after the fins close to the TPS(no $hit)...but it fired first time and all parameters went perfect right off...no horrible vacuum leak...wickin the throttle is now possible...and i got twice the low end....keep in mind that the before dyno #'s were 90ftlb @ 2000rpm...its a totally different bike to ride....without even tuning the BLM's it would wildly smoke the tire(which Phil has pointed out is no longer rounded)....i am stoked...sorry for my recent PMS'n guys....i have been distrought to say the least....now heres something else...i go on rides with my clients often and have rides scheduled most all the way thru nov...they all know i got a killer build but its always been broke and i have had to rent a bike or borrow one....not only expensive but embarrassing....i really do like the R&R stuff, its nice, its hot, its almost exotic(for streetbike standards it is)....its kinda the same as when you got a BBC and a 600cfm Holley...throttle response is instant...low end torque is incredible....for all yall who are contemplating an aftermarket TB...i got a new one for sale....for me, i'll run the stock one.....YAAAAAAAAAAHOOOOOOOOO
Man am I glad you got it dialed in,
thought I was gonna see HD parts flying outta my screen soon
Whenever you go with aftermarket parts, this is always a possibility and sometimes the seller doesn't know jack. Good that you kept at it till solved !
Glad you got it running again. Have you given any thought to trying the SE 50MM? I can't imagine that stocker is going to keep up with the potential of your cams/heads, and it sounds like you have become familiar with your rev limiter on occasion......
Zack ~ When I was specking my build w/Doug (@HQ), he told me as clearly as he possibly could have that the stock TB was the way to go and that I was f'ing up going bigger. It's ALL about velocity and cylinder fill.
As long as you don;t go beyond the TB's ability to supply air, then BIGGER is almost always WORSE!
Guess I better start looking for my stocker.... eh, Bryan?
I talked with Reggie before about his head work. He drives his point home about intake velocity and I can see how the larger TB was killing the low end. As you and PhilM have said in the past, it is important to have components that match.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained. You tried something ifferent, but it didn't work, But end result is you are back to having a raped ape for a ride!
When do we get to see you hanging one tire in the wind?????
I'm glad You got it whipped B!! Sometime You gotta break a few things to learn but it still sucks.I guess I wont be pulling You no more
Now quit working on the damn thing and ride the **** out of it.
I know what its like to spend a wad of money and still not have a great running bike, contrats on your success, hopefully I'll have some better results soon also
