Default Fork Bolts

I had to change a rotor on my front wheel and putting everything back together I broke one of the bolts on the bottom side of the fork. Do I have to buy an entire new fork? I knew I should have stopped. Ugghhh

If it's one of the two studs on the right fork leg bottom you mean, then no, it can be bought separately. On a 2009 touring it's Part No: 45998-73

Hopefully you have enough of the broken stud showing so you can remove it easily

Get a little heat on it, too.

I tried the heat and the vise grip and can not get it to go. That thing is on tight

I know this may not apply but make sure you are turning it the right way. Also heat it up really well.

Torque wrench get one and use it, Some of the fasteners have shockingly low seeming torque requirements.

Just today I removed the calipers and reinstalled without using the torque wrench but it bothered me so I checked. I figured I would be below the 35 pound mark and bot was I wrong !! Over 50 ! It is very easy to over tighten fasteners especially if you are an ape like me.

Torque wrench, buy one and use it !! Also get the manual so you have the required torque value.

As you learned it is not only potentially expensive it is mostly a giant pain in the **** when you snap something.

I feel your pain man !!

Really good advice!! Those cap nuts don't require much torque!!

Perverse isn't it? I unintentionally removed one of my exhaust studs a few days ago, which didn't need any effort at all, just a clogged up nut. Best of luck defeating yours.

Yes its terrible. I am going to buy a torque wrench today. I have a friend coming to help me tonight and he believes we can get it out of there with a vise grip. About an inch is hanging down yet. I found it you do not want to use heat because it will discolor the forks clearcoat.
