There are tons of bikes out there that have scratches on the on bottoms of the guards. That is what they are there for. Save your money unless it just really gets in your head.
How about some covers ? Captain Itch ?? He is a sponsor I think?? Makes some that look darn nice. Maybe a set for front and rear ??
This post got me thinking of my beat to crap ones and now I am fixated on them !!! Looks like my lazy self might be removing all the chrome from the rear and replacing with the new trike conversion takeoffs in the box on the shelf !! Thanks for making me work !!haha!!

Anyone try the after markey ones you see? They seem to cheap to be good. But Harley is sometime to cheap to afford.
I am thinking off adding full guards to my FLHR. I have had my FLHTCU completely on its side. Glad I had them. Luckily never tipped my FLHR as bad. But matter of time I suppose.
Rub them down to remove the scratches and then get them powder coated.
Powder coat sticks better if the chrome is gone.
Then take your time and pick up singles on Ebay/Craig's/garage sales for when it comes to sell the bike.
Likely it will go down again at some point, so no point buying new.
A bigger issue for me is, I wish someone would make guards that were actually level with the lines of the bags. Why on earth have them sticking up at 5 or 10° to the rear like they all do?
I took mine off except for the support bar the bags sit on. Even got small adapters for the front to tie the support to the frame to eliminate the large front loop bar. It's a cleaner look and gives the wife more leg room.
My bike doesn't have to be pristine, it's something I ride often and with use comes patina. Besides, many of the scratches, dings and imperfections I intentionally keep to remind me of things ive done that don't need to happen again.

Thats why I would not have one with out front and rear engine guards.
