Any FLHTC owners out there using motorcycle covers when not riding? Or while in storage? I was looking at the MOCO covers but always, I figure there are probably some top notch covers out there that might look/perform beter for the same or better price. What is available out there and what would you all reccommend?
I have an XL Dow Guardian Weatherall Cover that I've used on other motorcycles. I checked Dow's size chart and it's the size the recommend for the FLHTC.
At first it seemed tight but it actually fits just right. Once you get a system down, you can get it on and off in less then a minute.
In the past, I've used the cover everyday even thru the winter. At that rate, I'd say it should be replaced every 3 or 4 years.
Currently for every day storage, I've just ordered a cycle shell (www.cycleshell.com). This looks to be even quicker to take on and off and none of the cover touches the bike. I'll keep the Dow and use it for when I travel.
I don't have the info here at the office with me... If no one knows what I'm talking about I can find it when I get home tonight.
My first year with my bike I picked up a very nice cover, soft on the inside with places to tie it down. Kept her in my garage for the winter. This past year I picked up what I call a "bike bag" It's a think vinyl type material, that you drive on, and it literally zips the bike in a sealed bag. You through like 5 or 10 lbs of the silicon dry bags in the bag and the bike came out this spring looking exactly like it did when I put it in the bag. The company still says to put a bike cover on the bike as the bag could scratch the bike.
I use a Cycleshelter for my Road King, www.cycleshelter.com . It works great. nothing touches the bike even with the shield and backrest on. It's has plenty of room for the full dressers. It's basically a folding garage for your bike. It is not cheap but what's your bike worth to you. Putting it together is a treat too LOL.
As above, I recommend and use an Exigent dust cover in the garage. Have an HD cover I will take with me while touring sometimes......depends on time of year. Thing is pretty heavy and packs pretty big too.....but works, even against small hail! Has held up well over 11 years.
Go with the HD cover. Made to fit correct, has a opening for the antena, will last forever. Good in the rain, good in your garage. Yes it cost a few bucks, if you shop around you can find it for a little over $200 bucks.
