Hey everyone have a question on possibly upgrading to the Vance and Hines true dual headers.
Currently I've got rinehart slipons and the sound is great with just those on. But I've read a few posts saying when adding true dual headers that the bike runs cooler. That's what I want to know. I'm in Texas so our summers are pretty brutal and any bit helps so will I see a difference on engine heat with a set of these? Just curious to know how much these will actually help with the heat coming of my bike. thanks
Sound and looks are subjective, but many think these are better with true duals. 2-1-2, duals with a crossover or such tend to perform better. Did the bike run cooler, mine did, but I couldn't say it was cooler just because of the pipes. It will be almost necessary to add fuel management (tuner or manager) to the EFI to get cooler running with pipes and air. That's what I did and the overall combo did make a difference.
What year bike? does yours run under the bike? If it is an older model with the rear cylinder having a y pipe, it may seem cooler due to there is no pipe running down to the front pipe.

I have been running with V&H HO 4.5 slipons and just recently added the V&H Power Dual headers. You will get better mid range torque as opposed to getting high torque at 5000rpms with the dresser duals (true duals). Also if you don not change out the stock breather you do not need to remap or add a fuel pack. The only time you do that is if you decide to change out the breather so you can save app$400 on that alone. The pipes will run so much cooler because there is no cat at all. I've noticed a change already living here in Florida it gets hot. My right leg doesn't feel like it's burn't now with the power duals. The sound is awesome. Deep tone and it comes alive when you rev up. The Dresser or true duals might be a tad louder but not by much. This was all verified by the indy shop that installed my header system. Whichever you decide on you will love them.
Your 08 is already geared to high. The TD's will hurt your low end torque even more. First gear will suck even more! The plus is your rear cylinder will run much cooler. If you put a tuner on it is a big plus to run td's. If you don't run td's you rear cylinder will run super hot unless you shoot extra fuel to it. If you do up the fuel to the rear cylinder your performance will suffer.. I have been down this road.
A lot of y'all have mentioned fuel management/tuners to aid in the headers. Do you consider the screaming eagle super tuner pro to do the job. Also just to let y'all know I have the se stage one with a k&n filter.
I may be a little premature in chiming in here, but I'll give my two cents anyway. I took advantage of the Winter discounts my dealer was offering and had some V&H Monster Rounds with Dresser Duals thrown on as part of my Stage I upgrade. I don't have a whole lot of saddle time with the set-up, but it does seem to run much cooler so far, plus it sounds great.
One big difference I found yesterday was when I went to wash the bike. With the stock mufflers and pipes, they were red-hot after a ride. I had to wait forever for them to cool down before I washed it. With the V&H configuration, it was significantly cooler after I parked it and took much less time to cool versus stock.
