Default 2000 RoadKing

Currently looking at a low mile 2000 RoadKing...

After a little research, it seems at though 99 to 01 are years to stay away from due to the fuel injection.

Do I look at it this weekend, or do I pass and look for 02 and above?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums. You can replace it with a carb kit.

For $40,000, I'd say its a bad deal. For $2500, its a steal. All depends.

My 2001 had crappy fuel injection, I converted to carb. Pretty easy, cost was almost a wash.

Do you have a good Indy? I heard the MM isn't bad if you know how it works.
Switch to a carb if you need to. My friend has 5 Harleys. His '99 FLHT is his favorite. It's carbed.

My 01 RK is carbureted, came that way. some were fi and some were still carbureted. I bought is 4 years ago with low miles and have done many upgrades including 95" motor, front brakes, rear swingarm, chrome wheels etc. I love the bike. Just be prepared to spend a little more money depending on the condition and existing upgrades...

Yep my '99 is a factory carb bike. Runs like at champ with 80k. I've haven't heard a lot of good things about the MM EFI.

I have a 2000 rk with the M&M fuel injection. I've had no issues it with it at all. Fuel moto did a pretty stout motor build to, still using the M&M with a pclll usb, run like a monster.

1999 Road King with MM EFI, has always ran good. With the PCV fuel and timing programmer it is great. I looked into the carb set-up to replace the EFI because I probably read all the same stories you did but the bike just continues to run great.

All depends on what you intend to do to the bike. The MM fuel injection is actually very reliable but has its limitations if you start chasing horsepower. If you intend to keep the motor stock, the MM is not too big of an issue. Parts are getting more scarce as time goes on though.

As others have mentioned you can always convert to a carb but that is a fairly expensive option. MM fuel injection wouldn't scare me away but if I had a choice to grab a 2002 for similar $ I would go for that.

2003 and up models have weaker bottom ends due to crank manufacturering differences so there's that to consider as well.
