Ok I am wanting to get me a jack. To help with maintenance and cleaning. I have been looking but I don't know which on would be the best. I'm just wanting to just get it off the ground. I don't think I want to lift it real high.
Those will work if that's what you can afford. I had a cheap harbor freight jack that I used for 10 years and in fact still have it....changed a lot of tires on it.
BUT ..... If you are patient you can grab a really nice used one off of craigslist and get better quality for about the same money. I got my like new Pitbull for $150 off Craigslist about two years back...much better jack all around. Love it.
The J&S wins hands down. Know a few that have them . Not the one I own but I will admit it is better. Pit bull is strong but has issues.
If you need to go lower cost go with the Sears Yellow one , the red one sucks as bad as the harbor freight one.
I had a Sears jack. It worked but it wasn't the most stable of platforms to perch a 850 pound bike that I payed several thousand dollars for. I finally bought a J&S and never looked back. You'll hear it on this forum over and over again to invest in a J&S. I have to say that this is one thing you'll read about here that is actually as good as everyone says it is. It is so much better and safer than the Sears jack that it's not comparable.
The drag specialties jack would be handy for certain things like raising your bike a little when it's up on a lift platform but I don't think it's very practical for most maintenance work on a garage floor.
I like my J&S. I had the cheaper one sears sells and wasn't happy with it... it made me nervous with the bike leaning both picking it up and putting it down. Kinda made me feel like taking the bike down off the lift should always be a two person job.
The J&S takes all that worry away. It just picks up the bikes flawlessly, and puts it back down again with my only check being to see that the kickstand is down.
I had a blue one branded, off all things, AC Delco that was identical to the red Craftsman. Just last week decided to upgrade to a J&S - night and day difference: weight, stability, quality, the bottle Jack itself, etc.
However, I made due with the "red one" for a while...
