What is the rpm difference at 75mph pre 07,07-08,09-present?
Also, is there ride quality difference between a rk and sg? 2 up?
really appreciate the info presented here...thanks
On our 07 and 08 UCs 6th was mostly usable going over 70 and at that speed RPM were around 2500 uphill or head wind had to down shift or it feels like lugging. Things got better after upgrading both motors 103" Stage II we rode those bikes lot around 80 85 mph and 6th was very usable but our 15 Limiteds were fine running 6th around 65 mph. RK and SG share same frame except SG has good wind protection and music to keep you entertain. Buy more bike and be done with it or you will be shopping again very soon.
I agree with that statement. I bought my 07 Ultra Classic almost 3 years ago and it's been a great bike. Had I read about the "bastard years" I probably would have passed on it. I got a great, low mileage bike with stage two already installed along with many other goodies and 18 months of HD warranty remaining.
Yep, I really like my 07 RK Custom because it has the 6 spd 96 engine on the lighter frame. I can push it up the slight grade into my garage. Don't even think about pushing my Rushmore up it.
I've had over 200 motorcycle in 40 years.
I bought 6 new, all others were used.
Its truly amazing how a seller will take about 60% of his asking price when he sees cash.
Hate to be the skunk on the 6th speed fan boys lawn party but pretty sure 6th gear is 1 to 1 direct drive and not an overdrive. RPM's should be identical to a 5 speed at highway speeds. If that's true then you do get an extra gear down low.

Unless I am mistaken.
You are correct it is not overdrive but you are incorrect the rpms will be the same as a 5 speed. The difference is in the gear ratios the 6 speed runs a small rear sprocket as well as different 1 through 5 ratios, which in turn results in less rpm when in 6th compared to a 5 speed.
I would look for at least a 2008 that is the year the Brembo brakes came out they are night in day better then the old brakes. Also you can get ABS with the Brembos which is a nice safety feature

I figured this would happen. 2 09's available, a sg and a rk.
Sg-8k miles,v@h,stage1,lowered 2",trashcan breather, 12k firm
Rk-10k, v@h, sundowner seat,some chrome added 10k
Have not checked out either in person as they are 2+ hours away. Do I 'need' a sg?
Probably not, a majority of riding will be to work at 8-9 pm and 7am(65 mile round trip )

What's 'need' got to do with it? If the SG cool factor is calling you, you should listen.
If you are trying be practical, then you don't need an expensive Harley when a Kawasaki will do the same job just as well, if not better.
The SG will always have $2,000 more value than a RK, so it's not like you're loosing more money on the SG.
SG IMO better deal and will sell lot quicker since it's a top seller Harley Road King not sure Harley just keeping it alive hope I don't hurt anyone's feelings.
