Default Used Road King advice

Hey guys I`m a longtime softail owner looking to add a Road king to the stable. Looking for a RoadKing Custom or Classic, anything I should look out for when purchasing a used one or any years to avoid? Don`t really know much about the touring bikes but I like the 07 or newer cause of the 6 speed. Thanks for the help.

02-06 or if u can swing it 09^. 07-08 are bastard years. I'm sure the 07-08 owners will tell u how great their bikes are. i owned an 07, 1 of 4 harleys I've owned and it was by far the worst.

'09-13's are plentiful. Have all the good stuff like the 96-103 engines and six speed tranny. They have the worst handlebars in history, but are otherwise a great motorcycle. They have the current 180 rear tires as well. Too me, they are the best years if your looking for used. IMHO.

Make sure it doesn't have any compensator issues as its a pretty pricey thing to fix. I bought a used 09 that after warm would make a loud noise when trying to start the bike. Just google it as there are many posts on the problem. After I upgraded to the screaming eagle compensator the issue went away. Just something to look out for. Good luck with whatever you get.

I recommend going with the post '09 for the improved frame. Also, the Classic got the 103" motor in 2011. (Regular RK didn't get the 103 until 2012.)

I recently picked up a 2009 RKC with 8000 miles. I wanted a 2009 since this is the only year with the new frame and no catalytic converters.

The only issue so far is the front tire is cupping and needs replacement with 9500 miles on it. It has plenty of tread left but the cupping makes allot of noise. This was a know issue and HD replaced the tire the first few years of owning the bike if the tire began cupping. I bought a 2009 Street Glide new and had the same issue and HD replaced the tire no charge.

Other than needing a new set of tires the bike runs great.
