CVO Mufflers Review with Plug Removed
I then added cams and the Jackpot 2-1-2 headpipe and the Jackpot mufflers developed a hammering type sound while on the throttle that my ears could not handle. (Have had issues with my ears the last few years.)
Tried Jackpot Pro Touring mufflers but they were just too loud for me and the tone did not fit my taste.
Then ran Rush Big Louie's for a season. Tried 2 different baffle sizes. The 1.75" sounded tinny and the bike didn't seem to run perfect. The 2" sounded awesome. Deep idle and nice tone when on the throttle but still a tad loud for me.
Bought a set of brand new take off mufflers from a CVO as I read about the plug removal. These come in 2 different styles depending on year. Older style you can cut the end plug out with a dremel by grinding the welds. Newer style run an extension tube off the end so that is not possible. Some people are cutting the extension off to access the plug for removal. Other option was a 1 1/2" hole saw. Took me 30 min total only because you have to remove the muffler for the plug to pull out.
Now I have factory baffle CVO's with the plug removed. With my setup it sounds perfect. Like an old muscle car. Little concerned at first because the idle seemed quiet but when you get on it it has a nice rumble and they sound fantastic when rolling off the throttle during engine braking. So far after 1,000 or so my ears are still happy. Hope this helps someone out there.
FYI video is not the greatest but I did a comparison in my shop and put it on YouTube.
