Well I just went out for a solo ride after installing the 12" hand adjustable premium touring shocks. I bought them here in the forum classifieds used off a 2016 CVO Street Glide. I was very pleased with the ride. I set the preload to 0 turns. Some local very bumpy roads smoothed out real good, took the harshness out. Some bigger potholes still felt pretty bad though. I got home and picked up the wife for the real test. I set the preload to 10 turns put on the backrest and off we went. The first set of railroad tracks a mile from home she goes "wow that was good". That's all I needed to hear. After about half an hour or so she says "you got your money's worth". We road on roads she couldn't stand before and not a peep. Not once did we come close to bottoming out and we were only around half way on the preload setting. I know some opinions on these shocks are negative and I'm not going to argue about that, everyone has their own point of view and I respect that. These shocks are far from perfect I get that. I didn't buy new and didn't pay too much so for what I got. A big shout out to BIGRSRK08 for allowing me to match an offer (I was the first offer to buy) and quick delivery with excellent packaging.
The wife and I went on a 4000 mile ride up the California coast (hiway 1) and she thought the new shocks were wonderful compared to the air shocks we had on before. There was only one time where they scared us but it was when we hit a railroad track going 80 MPH. Needless to say, I ended up on the tank and she was halfway up my back, lol. We didn't bottom out though, heehee.
I'm in total agreement, for the cost and effort they are far superior to the air shocks. I know the sometimes get a bad rap and I'm sure they are not the best but I'm happy with them.
Like your wife said, "I got my monies worth"
Couple of days with the shocks now and it is definitely a better ride solo. I think the two up ride has more improvement over solo though. My wife likes the ride a lot better. I even lowered the preload 2 more turns and still no issues. I get the feeling with these shocks the more you load you put on them the better they are. I run with no preload when solo.
