Default Belt Deflection Question

Can someone confirm the belt deflection on a 2016 Ultra? I have a shop manual for 2015 touring and it says 3/8-9/16 deflection, 10lbs of tension either on the kickstand or with bike upright. It doesn't say if the tire can be in the air or on the ground when upright. I'm assuming nothing has changed from 2015 to 2016 on the touring bikes but wanted to make sure. Thanks.

Nothing's changed. Best way is to put it on a lift, have it in neutral and check deflection

Be conservative, don't over-tighten...belt naturally gets a little tighter as your machine parts come-up to temperature.

Thanks Zeke. When you say put it on a lift you mean a regular floor lift (not a table lift) and have the tire off the ground correct?

My manual for 2014 touring models says Tire On Ground.

if you have the tire off the ground, the rear swingarm is going to drop. when it drops, it is going to be looser. then as you drop the weight back onto the swingarm, your belt will tighten up. so, long story short, if you do it with the tire off the ground, you are going to end up with a belt that is way too tight.

You have a new bike? It should be in your owners manual - it is for all three of my bikes, from 1990 to 2011.

2012 manual says, "motorcycle upright and rear wheel off of the ground, or on jiffy stand without rider or luggage". 3/8 to 9/16" deflection at 10# pressure. Measure at several spots and adjust at the loosest point.
