Stock filter is your best filter, unless you really like the convenience of having that hex thing on it

Doesn't really matter unless you ignore regular oil changes

Absolutely K/N, get em @Amazon 171-C (Chrome $13.14), or 171-B (Black $12.50).
17mm (11/16") nut on the bottom makes it easy.
Very good filter media inside. I buy 3 or 4 at a time, free shipping.
Ride safe!

HD dealer or K&N (depending on how much time I have... lol). I know that Wix filters are very good too, but they must be the proper filter at the proper flow rate (our engine's being relatively low-oil-pressure types).

I'll bite--I've always seen these "reusable" filters advertised, but never really felt like I could trust wire mesh to filter down to the "microns" level. I could be wrong, but I just thought paper or cloth filters were significantly more efficient.

Without launching into a diatribe, these ss permanent filters are way superior in filtering capability to paper element filters. The dirty little secret is that your 5 micron paper filter doesn't even prevent the flow of 100 micron particles through it. Google "Nominal" vs "Absolute" oil filter ratings to get the entire story.
