Sport bike idiots
We had a local guy who went out & bought a Hyabusa as his first bike(against every bodies advice to the contrary). He was a middle aged dude with a wife & three little kids (& a super nice guy). He crashed the bike three days after he got it, but wasn't badly hurt (just a ton of sheet metal damage)
He got the bike fixed & brought it home on a nice sunny day last Summer. He told his three kids to go play next door while he took a short ride around the block. He never returned. When they went looking for him, they found him DOA mashed into a tree about 1/2 mile from his house(still in his own residential neighborhood) with 80 feet of skid marks on the road leading to it.
Can you just imagine the awful gut wrenching shock to those poor kids (the oldest one was 12 years old)?????

I was out today driving my cage and this "sport bike" cut in front of me and zipped
thru traffic like some idiot.
While I don't like those kind of bikes, each to their own, this is why people hate bikes.
Most citizens don't differientiate. Bikes are bikes.
Is this a common feeling or do I need to "chill out" ? Still couldn't figure out where the
sport bike idiot was going. Traffic was so heavy, he gained about 8 seconds.

While I'm no fan of people that ride like that (note I'm commenting on HOW they ride, not on WHAT they ride!), and I agree most non-riding citizens don't differentiate, I couldn't help but think of the times I've been caught in traffic and was forced to endure some "you-know-what" on a Harley repeatedly rapping his straight pipes in my ear! [:@] Don't get me wrong. I've got nothing against Harley's but I'm no fan of really loud exhaust systems. I don't have a problem with modding the exhaust system to improve it's sound and/orthe engines performance but open straight pipes is going too far IMO and I firmly believe that bikes being ridden that way are far more responsible for the negative perception that much of the non-riding public has about motorcycles in general!
I've had way more people make negative comments to me through the years about obnoxiously loud exhausts systems than have ever talked about sport bikes weaving in and out of traffic! I guess it all depends on your perspective.

PS: I think Nellybelle said it best!
I saw a guy on a ricer the other day at a stop light and you could see the cords in his rear tire. It stretched about 1/4 way around the tire. You have to wonder.
I ride both - liter bike and streetglide. Both have their place, but everyone should ride within their limits and crazy when (no one's looking) and where (race track) the time is right.
Just sayin'
And you notice I am not apoligizing for it. My bike and my choice. Anything that gets me more heard, gets me more noticed, which means I am more seen.IMO.Had a pack of bikes pass the family and I down in El Paso. I was going at least 75mph, and couldn't tell you how fast they were going. The ones in the front would swerve through traffic, then COMPLETELY turn around on their bikes to watch their friends catch up. Scariest thing I had ever seen. One of these guys had a chick on the back of his bike, who was hot and wearing next to nothin', but still. I slowed down and let them get far ahead of us. I was sure I would see one of them belly up down the road, but, thankfully, I didn't. I promise you, if one of those guys wrecked and my kids saw it, they wouldn't let me drive my bike anymore. I am as safe as I can be on my bike, but my two girls make me call them whenever I stop out on a ride. And ifI drive to work and it happens to rain, my youngest calls me and asks if mom and them can come pick me up. They worry about me, and I can't think of any good reason for them not to. I will always ride, but when I do, my girls are always on my mind. They love their Papa.

Don't be down on sport bikes. Throwing stones at sports bikes is no different than some idiot that says HD riders are a bunch of greasy law breakers. Sure that moron you see spliting lanes in shorts with sandles is a accident waiting to happen, but that (here we go) is no different that telling someone to wear a helmet.

OBTW i wear a full face helmet, I'm ugly enough thank you.
