Engine Temp Sensor code 14

I ride a 2000 ultra and was warming up bike the other day. Out of the blue the engine shut down. Check engine light came on and coded 14 for engine temp sensor. Bike will crank but not start. My question is will a failure in this circuit keep bike from starting. The bike is completely stock and I have never had any problems with the MM Fuel injection.

I can't speak for MM injection, but if you lift the leads from the ET sensor on the newer systems the bike will not run/start.

I have a 98 Road King with MM Fuel injection and it will run with a bad engine temp sensor all day long. It will run like crap, but it will get you home eventually.
