I had the fairing off to tinker with the left speaker cutting in and out on me. While in there i thought I'd try moving the Air Temp gauge sensor and see if it helped any.
My 30 mile ride after that showed it within 2 degrees F of my H-D accessory gauge on the handlebar grip (the nice little oil-filled one that's very accurate). What a big difference! I'm very happy with that, 2 degrees isn't worth quibbling about at all. Usually it was 15 degrees too HIGH. Now it was consistently 2 degrees LOWER than the accessory temp gauge on the handlebar.
All I had to do is splice in about a 14" of wire to get the sensor outside the fairing and it was surprisingly quick and easy to do. Gee why an H-Dengineer couldn't doa long time agothat is absurd...
RE: Air Temp sensor re-located... works great now :)
Where did you move it to?
I'm going to have my fairing off at some point to look at my fairing brackets again and I might want to move my air sensor also, but I'm not sure where to mount it.

Steve,
I'll snap a pic in the morning if you want... What i did was drop it out thru the bottom of the fairing (it's open there) and I double-stick taped it to the chrome panel thats right below the fairing. The sun cannot reach it there, the engine heat can't affect it and you really can't see it unless you kneel down and look there.

Dave,
How does your temp gauge read after moving it? Does it seem right on? I've got the advantage of having that other gauge to compare it to, so I know it's 2 degrees lower than the one I assume is the mor accurate of the two. I'll have to see how it is in hotter weather, but last nite was 70 degrees on the way home and it was very very close to the other gauge.

And we need to know the air-temp when we are ridin why?...I have one of those silly gauges too on my Glide but have never figured out why they put it there in the first place...

It's there because most people don't realize the temps when riding and the dehydrating effects of the wind and heat while moving. It's a simple reminder that it may be hot as hades out and you need to hydrate.
Additionally, how much money has harley raked in selling the oil gauges everyone buys to replace it. Put a few useless items or polished pieces on a bike and people will flock to their dealer or internet to spend lots of money to replace it with something else that's just as useless.

I would like a picture, because I'd like to move mine so it would work properly. Is it mounted out of the wind? I'm a visual learner, I need pictures to understand.
Thanks
