i got a new mount that let me relocate it back a couple of inches. can't remember who from. wife liked it as it gave her more room. it did stretch, well almost stretch the cables so watch that when you move it. drilling would be ok too. only you will know there are extra holes in it cause the liner will be in it. good luck there is always that bit of doubt when you start to drill in the trunk....at least i had it when i put on my trunk rack on my 2010 ultra classic. once you get the first hole done, the rest come easy....lol.
I moved mine back two inches and drilled new holes.Problem solved at zero cost!
I just ordered the DK Custom relocater. Claims to move the pak back 2.5", not raise the pak up and provide added rigidity to the rack and pak. Made in USA as well.
I looked at drilling more holes but didn't like how little material would be left. Wife will be leaning back on it and neither she nor I are small people. I like the fact that the DK Is made of stainless steel and reinforces both the mounting rack and the pak itself. I'll gladly spend a few dollars for that piece of mind.
I considered it but I doubted I'd actually move it much and it's 2.5 times the cost of most fixed ones.
Also, they have been known to have occasional problems with the tracks bending.
I have had this on mine for a few years now and it works great. My OL is 6'2 and likes/needs the extra room. I can actually get about 4" rear movement and 1" forward from stock. I usually only put it back 3" when she is with me but I move it all the time. You should put some never seize on the lock down screw threads before you assemble it on the bike. I count my turns on the releases (5 full turns out to loosen and 5 in to tight) for repeatable set up. It may take a few rides to get them to the proper tightness. If they do not release just use your palm to push up on the release with some down pressure on the TP to pop the wedge out of the channel. I adjust mine on the center stand and sit on my roller seat. It takes about 3 or 4 minutes. When sliding it forward on a center stand be sure not to roll the bike off the stand.
BTW at 3" back position it will get you a free ride through most easy pass cameras.
I don't have any pics, but if memory serves me right,I moved it back about two inches and was able to use two preexisting holes. Then just drilled the other three.I've had it that way a couple years and have had no problems.
was wondering around the site & ran into this: EZ up center stand & tour pack relocator, center stand is gone but it looks like the relocator is still available.
