We often do 90 mph behind some speeding cars to avoid being target and I'm glad we can actually set the max cruise at 90 on the Rushmore bikes where our old UCs were limit to 85 mph according HD speedometer which really was about 80 to 81 mph.Only bad thing is the low 30s fuel mileage. As for as it goes for safety there is not really a big difference when speed is over 60, only matter is either be a vegetable for few years or check out quickly, don't have a death wish but want to live healthy and enjoy living.
Come here to the OK and ride like that. The wind here is ridiculous sometimes. Being a new rider, I have no problem in the slow lane doing a touch over the speed limit. You don't need to ride like a maniac to keep that cool image intact.
HI......WE ARNT NEW RIDERS.....stay in the slow lane.....plz
I join in on a few local club rides as a guest and 85+ is typical, its fun when there's a group of 10-20 riding with you and traffic just kind of backs off and lets the group lead.
I'm on the NJ Turnpike 3-4 days a week for work. By far not my favorite road by any means, but it is a necessity. I maintain a steady cruising speed of 80-90mph just to go with the flow of traffic. I mainly keep it at 80. Even when I'm going 90 cars are blowing by me. I'm not zig zagging through traffic or trying to race anyone. Just trying to get from point A to B.
My favorite ride was just at the end of June riding back from visiting a buddy in South IL. I was on these lonely midwestern interstates. Not too many cars around me and an occasional tractor trailer. I set the cruise control to 80 and just rode along having a grand old time.
I always say that God looks out for babies and fools and here I am far exceeding my nine lives.
i live in a mountainous area so usually i'll lock it into 60-70 and cruise. took a trip yesterday to the flat lands and went 80-90 most of the way. i didn't have my lowers on because of sweaty *** syndrome so my pants were flapping a bit. i have a LRS ultra windshield so the majority of the wind was going over my head. felt very nice. very stable. i remember doing 90 on my sporty. that was scary. 90 on my fl? smooth. wanted to try 100 but my ***** and gas gauge wouldn't allow it. can we get a 7th gear yet?

I've done something similar before. Woke up late for a 4 day ride and was meeting my riding buddies about 120 miles away. Got on I-20 and a car passed me doing about 90. Stayed with them, weaving in/out of traffic. Wasn't much traffic and it WAS exciting. Not something I like doing, but it did make up for the time lost from oversleeping.
