this is how I trailer mine as to not compress the suspension, six inch block under the frame and strap it down six ways from Sunday.

This is what I do but I use a 4" X 4" with a 2"X 4" screwed on top with screws countersunk. This gives me the perfect height to slide under bike before tightening down. It is 24" long to go past the frame. I the strap at the tie down bracket, soft ties around the front frame down tube and around the rear foot pegs. I use good ratchet straps and check often while traveling.

I have tied bikes down several times compressing the forks. The key is just to not fully compress them. Just enough to put some equal pressure on.

4X4 with a 2X4 screwed to it (counter sunk holes) under the frame is how I tie mine down. (No 6x6 laying around...lol)
When I used to ride moto, there was a device you could put between the top of the front tire and the fender...but alas, we're not talking about 10 to 12 inches of travel up front, lol.

Front frame rails down, anchor bottom frame rail or the like side to side, then I put two straps through the rear tire on top of each other, one left, one right, so it can't go up or side to side.

If you do that and hit a big enough bump you risk the strap jumping loose. I make sure I am on something solid and cinch down from there.

I like the 6x6 idea.

Cool idea on that quick link chain link in order to secure strap if it does not have the little safety clip.
Might even slow somebody down a few seconds if they are trying to mess with the straps to steal bike.

lol...I'll tell ya man, I can't count how many times I was asked "are you sure you have enough wheels for that load?"

I had a job down south that took me by my HD mechanic friend's city about 7 hrs south of home so I threw the Ultra on the scissorneck lowbed to drop it off on the way by. needed some work and took it to the HD shop in Red Deer after he was done for a dyno tune. hey, it worked for me!

those work great. used a chunk of cut to size 4" x 4" post for years hauling my moto x bikes until someone came out with those fork brace deals.

RolloMo's method looks to be best. Straps are around the frame not the handle bars using a wheel chock. Strapping down using the handle bars will often damage the rubber bushings in the mounts. The direction of the straps pull is in parallel with the fork rake direction and high enough to keep the bike upright. Rear of the bike is tied down to eliminate rear bounce. This kind of tie down will hold the bike even if the trailer turns upside down.
