yeah, i called my Indy, and he said if I bought the tire from him (he had one in stock he wanted rid of) he would do me a deal, it was under 200.

I wanted to change my front wheel, same size, different style. The dealer said it would be 1hr@ $95. When I got the bill it was $205. They didn't do anything but take the tire off the old wheel and installed it on the new. No bearings needed. Just balancing.
What a rip off.
A month later I decided I didn't like how the front end felt with the new wheel so I took the bike and the old wheel to reverse what the dealer did. I took it to an Indy, he charged $50 out the door!

My local H-D dealer used to (probably still does, but I don't go there for service anymore) charge the same price to change a tire whether it was on or off the bike. I guess that was their way of telling you to always take the bike to them.

I go to a local independent, bring my own tire (the dealer would not put on a tire you brought in) and they install it and put in the balancing beads. Far cheaper and way better service.

I would have expected to pay what the guy told me it was gonna cost before I left the rim there. Not firming it up in the beginning usually leads to surprises and I don't like surprises.

That said, I haven't bought a tire off a dealer in more than a decade. The only money any place gets from me is the mount and balance; I bring the tires. If I ever have the first bit of trouble finding someone to do it for $25.00 a tire, I'll have a tire machine here in five days.

190 total with tire. Pulled wheel myself. Brought it along with my avon cobra i got for 150 to my local Honda dealer and they changed out for 40 bucks. and a added bonus was i got to grease up the bearings myself for piece of mind. HD dealer wanted about 400. they are insane. BUT. If money was readily available and i was 70 years old id probably just drop the bike off and be done with it.
