I have a 2005 FLHTI I bought it 4 years ago and thought it rode stiff but not bad. Well this weekend I rode a new electra and the ride was amazing! I currently have arnott air ride with onboard compressor and progressive springs in the front. My wife hates riding because bumps can be quite bone jarring. I know the previous owner spend some money on the set up but I am looking for ideas to mike the bike more rider friendly or I might have to buy a new bike LOL
Have you tried lowering the air pressure? Is everything is the air system working correctly (like changing air pressure, no leaks, etc)? How custom is the suspension? If he was a umm, large, guy and set the suspension for a weight considerably higher than yours, it will be too stiff for you.
I have a gauge in the dash for the air pressure I have tries as low as 6lbs to 90lbs when 2 up. She says it is better with more pressure in them. As far as leak down there is none to speak of. I don't know how "custom" it is, it appears to just be the arnott shocks and compressor.
Air ride will give you that cool slammed look that will get them on the back.
Ohlins will keep them back there smiling.
Do some research and you'll find that a good percentage of us have gone the Ohlins route and a majority of that group (myself included) have gone through Motorcycle Metal.
There are other options out there that get great reviews but Ohlins user definitely seem to be the majority
