Confusing Charging Issues
So here is my latest issue with my 07 FLHX....
About a month ago I took her up to the local car wash to give her a bath before a rally that following weekend. Bath finished it took me a minute to get it started. I had assumed that I just got some water in one of the no no spots.
After about 10mins of air drying she started up and I made my way home. The following night we headed out for the rally that weekend and the first 100 miles or so of the ride was fine. At that point we got stuck behind th worlds longest damn train and I shut the bike down for about 45 mins to wait. Upon starting the bike it again took a good 15 mins to get her going almost killing the battery in the process.
The following day I swung in NAPA Auto and used their load tester on my battery. Engaging the starter drug her down to about 6v which was indicative of a bad battery. At that point to be safe I replaced my battery with a DEKA AGM battery. The battery appeared to be the original stock battery from HD so it was well past time.
Things were ok the rest of that day. That evening I went to fire off the bike to head back to our cabin and again, sluggish start.
Here are my symptoms:
Running down the highway voltage shows 14v
Sitting at idle voltage shows 13.5v
If I switch on my spots of pull the brake lever at idle I can watch her drop down to 11 and 12v depending on how long I hold the brake lever.
Spots on running hwy at night I am seeing 13.5v ish.
I took the bike to an indy and had the stator checked for grounds and the regulator checked. no grounded stator and regulator checked good. (regulator was just replaced about a year and a half ago anyway)
Occasionally when starting I get a bit of a clunking noise now as well, but nothing when she is running.
It is almost as if the starter engages, loses power and hangs, then reengages to finish the start. At that same time it causes enough draw that my aftermarket radio resets to factory demo mode settings from loss of power.
I am losing my gourd here. The indy mech I went to said he thought stator was charging but not pushing enough amps to actually overcome the drain when system has a load on it.
I read where some people are saying that the compensator is sharting itself which may be causing the clunking.
I don't know what to make of this anymore... any advice or thoughts would be appreciated.

did anyone check the battery cables connections were clean and tight?
my neighbor spent $1300 at the dealer- a few batteries, a couple of stators and regulators...
here was the fault- which I found in 10 minutes and cost $12
