Remember K.I.S.S! You said you've done a lot of things, but you never said you changed the filter on a 16 year old gas tank. Even though you had good pressure, you may not have the volume. If theirs crap floating in your tank (lining separation) it can be blocking filter as level or amount of crap that gets on the filter changes, then settles runs ok, than blocks again.
I have had tank off and all the fuel pump parts out , no hole in the lines, I poured fuel through the filter it flowed good. I had very minimal debris in the tank, which i cleaned out and none on the screen of the pick up. I had the same thought of it using up the fuel so to speak which was why I had the regulator changed, I guess I figured if the pressure was correct and the fuel flowed through the filter easily that the filter was ok. thank you for the help

it normally happens after a 5 mile stretch at 60 + in 5th, then it will affect the bike at all speeds and gears. when I get it to run right after it has acted up, it becomes more constant when it does it. If I stop and try to work on it, it normally starts Idling fine then I start off and it will run great or act as if it is on 1 cylinder but even then it runs strong. but I can hear in the exhaust that it sounds muffled and not as crisp as usual,
I buy that, is there a way to test it, when it gets hot? I will also check and see if an 06 is compatible with my 00 if so I may be able to borrow one for an hour or so.
I had 89 FLHS that did the same thing, I would ride for an hour and it would die. I would sit on the side of the road for 15 minutes and it would start up and run all day. It drove me crazy. Everything tested out, but in the end the coil was the culprit.
