All, yesterday I notice my left side exhaust and left side saddle bag shake really bad at idle whereas the right side is rock solid. I cannot shake the left w/ my hands, but when the bike is idling it is obvious that one side is moving and the other is not. I plan on taking an indepth look when I get home from work, but what should I be on the lookout for? Any specific hangers or bolts that would cause this?
Also my tri-bar fender tip light buzzes at idle because of the shaking. Has anyone ever found a reliable way to make it stay tight? Thanks!
As well when you get home put the bike on the stand, let it idle, and look closely at things. Like the above spot mentioned. If it's not there, you'll likely find somewhere else where dramatic motion is happening, right next to something that is not moving, but should be joined.
I have the same exact problem. I did not find any broken saddle bag rail, but what I did notice is that rear rubber exhaust pipe mount is very sloppy. I tried to tighten the two bolts holding it on but they would not budge. The rubber mount part number is 65724-85 for my 09 street glide its about $3.00. I did not spring for the part because I do not think it is the problem.
In my case the next items I might try is re-balance the wheels, and have them check the front wheel bearings.
{UPDATE} I bought the rubber exhaust mount, installed it and still have a vibration issue, i am leaning towards I might have flat spotted my rear tire when I skidded to a stop for a light. If that's the issue then the michelin tires might be too soft.
Same story with my SG. I will pull the bag and investigate, but me thinks it may be common for it to shake the left side more than the right....just not sure why.
