Default Mustang tour pack backrest

Anyone using the Mustang extended arm backrest ?
I'm about to buy a Summit seat & want to find out
if the Mustang tour pack backrest offers the passenger
any more comfort . Does anyone have any pics of it on
their bike ?

We don't want to speak for the riders, but they do sell pretty well so we must be doing something right!

The biggest complaints we get on our armrests is that some passengers don't like the flatter and longer arms we have as compared to stock. We'd be willing to put ours next to the H-D armrests for pure comfort any day, though.

Just seen this...I have a 16 FLHTK...used my mustang seat form my last bike and purchased the passenger backrest to match, it's done in the Regal stiching/buttons...so I am not sure if mine would be the same as the Summit.

From my wife's standpoint...the jury is still out on comfort as we need to get out for a longer ride...she says it feels like there is a vertical lump in her back. Nothing can be seen or felt...we are working on that.

From my standpoint...it is thicker than the stock backrest and pushed her forward into my backrest support post. I had to buy a tourpak relocation kit to move her 2" back. Talked to Mustang about it, they say it should mover her further back than stock...no so in our case. So in addition to the backrest I have $150 into a relocation kit.

Relocation kit...Kuryakan kit for the 16 FLHTK...while installing it, one of the supplied bolt broke at about 50 in/lb. They are supposed to be 60-72 in/lb. They were grade 5 bolts. In a safety critical application such as this (passenger weight on the tourpak bolts) ya think a grade 8 would be used. I replaced the bolts with grade 8 (after having the grief of drilling and easy outting the broken bolt and chasing the threads with a tap. I emailed Kury, got a response they never seen one brerak and they would advise the product manager. Never heard from them after that.

Good Luck on the project.

Thanks for the feedback. We always advise setting the Tour-Pak as far back as possible. If that lump remains an issue, please call us as we may be able to do warranty work to alleviate that.

How odd. Never use any hardware less than Grade 8 on a motorcycle application, end of story.

MustangMan, I will call customer service shortly, that was my plan after I finish up a sub from Sub-Way and goofing off on this forum! If you would like to talk directly with me, drop me a name or extension to ask for. Thanks.

To the forum...just an edit to say, Mustang has a 10 day return policy...I have already been in touch with them asking for an extension due to the grief I had with the Kury product and time I needed to correct it and get out and ride it some....and they kindly extended the 10 days. I have purchased seats, drivers and passenger back rest in the past from Mustang, the products are top notch as is the service.

I put one my 01 Ultra in 2010. The wife loves it, but had to remove brackets for my Kuryaken Travel Trunk and have never figured out how to mount it for our road trips. She highly recommends the backrest though!

Thanks for the feedback . I don't want to
move her forward any as the Summit will be
moving me back . I'm still trying to decide .
Hope to tour around the country next summer
for a month or two after I get retired . Got to
make the boss comfortable .

It's no secret Harleys touring bikes are designed to be uncomfortable. I support that statement with the fact that even an average size guy does not fit the handlebar/pedals/seat offered as stock. Harley wants to sell you the extra parts you need for any kind of comfort beyond an hour in the saddle.
If you are going to ride these bikes longer than the time it takes to go out and back to the local bike night, it has to be modified for long hours in the saddle.

If a new seat pushes you back 2", will you need new handlebars? ($1000) If the seat is higher than stock, will you need a shock lowering kit? ($1000+). If the seat pushes you back, will you need a tour pak relocation kit? ($150 installed yourself). I bring these points up, from experience form past Glides I have owned and going through again with a 2016 Limited. The answers to the above questions, you will find once you start making changes and how those changes affect your comfort.

I will try and get a pic snapped of my Limited, with the Mustang backrest, tonight or tomorrow night. Personally, think it looks great with the Regal treatment, button tufted and black pearl studs, to match my Silver/Black paint job. My Mustang seat, is 7 years old, I kept it as it is very comfortable even with 10 - 12 hour days in the saddle.
