uhm rush uses the sb2 system to eliminate the discoloration on carted head pipe to eliminate the issue and cut down on warranty replacement there is a thread here on the forum
That was my original thought as well and then did some research prior to staggering. General concensus was 2 into 1 gave best performance so adding some resistance to the left side creates more of that effect in a 2-1-2 setup. I believe leaving a head pipe catted is the only time ive seen making the left side larger, viable.

Yes, I dont have a cat per my original post. Thanks for the confirmation of when its used tho.
I now have 2 1/4" baffles in both BL,s with a stock decatted headpipe. After a 100 miles or so my ears will ring for hours at night. I like the sound but concerned about my old ears. I bought a set of Rush's latest and greatest 2" baffles. They are a couple of inches longer than the old style 2" baffles. I don't like the sound of them, i hear that stuffed potato sound like they are too restrictive ??? You got me thinking about leaving the 2.25" in the left and sticking in a 2" in the left side and give that a whirl. Would you suggest have both wrapped with packing the same? Seems like the 2" baffles have packing in both sections of the baffle (before the forward mount plate and also in between the mount plates). The 2.25" baffles only have packing in between the mounting plates.
The other things I could try is to add packing on both 2.25" baffles like the 2" came. Or remove the rear packing from both 2" new style baffles????

I too noticed the change in baffle construction with the 2" baffles extending the full length of the can and being wrapped on both sections. For me, I left that all intact and kept in the left side to be more restrictive than my right side 2.5" which I also have wrapped but only the far end as it was originally. I have a very good balance of sound and low end response. The good thing about having a couple sets is you can experiment with a wrapped or unwrapped baffle but I think im done and happy

the reason for the extended baffles is to direct the exhaust 1oo% from the head pipe to the baffle and result in a better sound and seal , always put the larger baffle on the left muffler or you will cause the right muffler to turn yellow or blue or both I have talked to rush about their SB2 system and used it until I installed the rush 103HO headers and the 2 1/4 baffles in both sides it sounds and runs good but its louder [loud pipes save lives]

OK but, SB2 or 3" in Left and 2.5" in right is designed for stock headpipes "with the cat" in place.
greggillette and mine both have the Cat removed.
I tried the 2" new style again this morning but removed the the front packing on both, sounds a little better but still get that higher pitched back pressure sound on decel and throttle roll back. I may not be explaining the higher pitch sound correctly but that is the sound that I don't care for at all. (much less deep low sound)
I'm beginning to think that maybe the OEM decatted header is producing that higher pitch????
My first big twin so I'm stillo learning.
Just installed the 2" only rear section wrapped in the left side and then put a 2 1/4" with both sections wrapped in the right side. Going for a spin.
Thinking my next move will be 2" left with both sections wrapped, and 2 1/4" right with both sections wrapped as well.

Just as a fyi, I have my front section removed from my 2.5" baffle on right side. Rear section is wrapped. Just something else you can try if enjoy experimenting.
