I had a lot of knock off stuff on my last bike, chrome did not hold up after a few years. When I got the RK I decided it will be only HD accessories, though yes the prices are very high. At my dealer every time you accumulate 1000 worth of accessories you get 10 percent off which takes a bit of the edge off.

Will it hold the weight of a passenger against the backrest? Im looking to get rid of my wife and hope she'll fall off.

I have the same set up and at first didn't like the big ***** so I installed chrome bolts but later decided to put the ***** back on to use the quick adjustment.I use it three ways , sometimes without the rack and sometimes without the back rest so I can mount a "t" bag or when riding solo and remove it when not needed. good product , good price.

Just got mine and am pretty happy with it. Had HD backrest on my Road King, and I can see the difference in quality, but its not enough for me to spend triple the money, especially for a backrest that will be on the bike 10% of the time. Time will tell though, we'll see how it holds up.

I bought the 4 point docking brackets off e-bay and couldn't be happier. Don't remember who exactly I bought from but they were $61 to my door, Harley wants like $150. You got to be careful and read what they are made of. Some are aluminum so shy away from them.
Harley stuff is most always top quality but in this case they can keep their high priced product.

Well, for what its worth,

I went ahead and ordered the 4 Point docking hardware and tour pak bracket from Wisdom Motorcycles on Ebay.

http://stores.ebay.com/wisdommotorcycle/

Im more than pleased. Shipped next day, had them in 3 days total. (Cali to Utah)

Some observations:

1. As stated early in this thread, no instructions at all. Not that you need them. But Just saying.

2. I am more than pleased with the quality. The ONLY thing I can see any different regarding quality, is on the docking points, as stated, the top edges were not as nicely polished before chroming as the Genuine HD article. But that aside, The chrome looks good, they fit on perfectly, and they WORK perfectly with the trunk mount. Hell, the rack clipped onto the bike better than the last HD Kit I bought, which had to be tweaked and fiddled with (spread/squeezed) to mount. This clipped on PERFECTLY the first time.

The plastic docking point bushings MAY be a little cheaper quality, but its been long enough since I had the harley parts I cant say for sure. Worst case, if they wear out prematurely, Ill replace the bushings with the harley article. We all know that even those wear and get sloppy over time with repeated mount/dismounts.

3. The tour pack bracket (this is for 14 and up) is not one solid piece. Its the two side pieces, and a center plate that you bolt between the 2 with 6 provided bolts. Seems plenty sturdy to me once assembled. I only mention it because it IS different from the 1 piece stamped and bent design of the HD product, and other knockoffs on ebay. I will say the bolt holes were drilled perfectly for the size of the bolts, and alignment of the parts. There is no "slop" to be found. Instructions might be good for some, as there is the question of "do I bolt the plate to the top or the bottom of the side plates" (top) easily answered by the product photos on ebay and common sense when you look at how its constructed, but some might nitpik the lack of included instructions.

4. The trunk bracket allows 1" forward/backward adjustment, as far as bolting the trunk to it, same as the HD part.

5. As he clearly states, the bolts for attaching the trunk to the bracket are NOT included. If your bike HAS a tour pak, your fine, you already have them. If you are ADDING one to a bike that didn't have it, you will need the 4 bolts to attach it. (cant remember if HD includes them with a tour pak or not.)

Overall, I am very pleased. Not quite the high quality of the Harley cosmetically, but so damn close as to be a non issue in my opinion. And I am one picky SOB when it comes to my bike. This is the first time I have ever put a "knock off" part on any of my bikes. But the reality is, These parts allowed me to do this, as I was NOT gonna pay HD $380 for this option.

I paid $175 total. Thats over $200 difference. Which will allow me to also purchase a backrest and luggage rack and have every possible option, for less money than just the tour pak detach kit from HD.

Again, Im a VERY picky SOB when it comes to my bike, so rest assured, if this stuff looked bad, or wasn't build good, or fit sloppy, it would have gone right back to the seller, and I would be on here warning you all away.

Be aware that there are a LOT of sellers on ebay selling knockoff harley parts, and Im sure that many of them are selling the SAME exact parts. This seller seems to be slightly different in the truck bracket regard, as his seems to be the only one that comes in the 3 pieces. I suspect maybe that was to allow it to fit in a smaller shipping box. At first I though it was to allow different hole patterns for the 09-13 and 14-17 model years, but the trunk bolts to the side pieces, so this isn't the case.

As long as the chrome holds up over time, Im pleased as punch.

This review is for the Wisdom Motorcycle parts ONLY. There are many others on ebay, some cheaper, and MOST of them seem to have many more bad reviews than this sellers parts. (He had a much better feedback rating)

I hate to do an Easter thread, but ...

Any thoughts on the "knockoff" tour packs/trunks?

I scored a docking kit and tour pack rack from a forum member for $100 (woot) and I've been looking at used tour packs. I hate to put something beat up (that I can afford) on my brand new bike, but I also don't want to buy twice, cry twice.

All I saw at Wisdom MC parts was the chrome and backrests.

I have an eBay four point docking setup, and an eBay tour pack quick detach base plate. Both fit and work perfectly.

I have ordered and am waiting on (damn this weather!) this faux "Tour Pack": http://www.ebay.com/itm/181982889901...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Hopefully it will be here tomorrow.

I don't really have a need for any of the products at this time, but you never know if I will in the future or if any riding friends might. I put them in my saved seller list.
Thanks!
