Getting ready to the Blue Ridge Parkway from Cherokee, N.C. all the way north. Anyone that's rode it have any suggestions before I start? Thanks, Mike
For me the Parkway itself can become boring if you do not plan to go off every once and a while or mix some interesting stops into the mix.
Rather beautiful and relaxing but it repeats and starts to look the same.
I find the true joy to break off and on the BRP while adding interesting stops along the way.
FYI the leaf watchers start using the Parkway in October and it greatly increases the traffic. Also watch for deer when traveling early morning or dust to dark.
Watch the speed limit, saw tons of cops out there last year. Get off and take a look at some of the towns otherwise it starts to get boring. Have a safe trip.

How much time do you have?
To be clearer, how much time do you have available to ride and get back?
What type of overnights are you thinking about? hotel, camp? budget?
Some folks ride from end to end but stop for nothing while others bounce in and out of the BRP and like to experience the area.
When you get to Fancy Gap intersection get off the parkway and go south to Mt. Airy, N.C. The hometown to Andy Griffith and the town that inspired Mayberry.
Leaves will start changing so if your on a weekend beware of people pulling out from the outlooks along the way.
Stop in Boone its a cool little town with a good place to eat called the Local. Another Little Bar and Motel off the parkway is Freebournes, its south of Boone. Wheels through Time is another good stop along the way.
We are headed up to the Parkway this weekend to catch the early leaf change and back a few weeks later to catch the end.
