Just had the dealer fit the new model saddlebag retaining hardware as used in the 2017 touring models on my 2014 FLHTK while getting other work done on my bike.
The kit cost about $70AUD and they fitted it for free.
I am much happier now with the securing of my precious saddlebags - I still remember that sinking feeling when I found one of the 1/4 turn pins had come out. I will have such feelings no more. I can rest easy knowing the bags are well secured now.
By the way if you want to do the same part number for the kit is: 90201540 - its well worth the investment.
Why would you have the dealer swap out the hardware? Nothing could be simpler. I swapped out my stuff with materials from the corner hardware store for less than $10, and that's just because I used ***** instead of regular screws or it would have been even cheaper and it's just as secure as yours.

I just don't trust myself with a wrench doing even the simplest of jobs. In this case I'm not really sure how to properly mount the receiving threaded hardware. Sad I know....
Sorry, no offense intended. To be fair, I have only the vaguest notions of the hardware, having only seen it once. On the other hand, if you can install a U nut you can change the hardware. Countless threads out there about it.
I think you did the right thing letting the dealer do the install. These new for 2017 bolts are special and I'm sure nothing like them are available at any hardware store.
I also had u-nuts and bolts. However I did pick up the kit and installed on my 15. The thing I like is the washer has rentention dimples in it. So as you tighten you feel it click in as you tighten. Keep's them from backing off like a lock washer would

You might not find the Harley ones in a Hardware store but that doesn't mean the bolts you can buy for $7.00 won't work. I've had them on my bike for a few years. Took about 10 min to install.
