DK Custom Oil Filter Relocation Kit Install--2014 Limited
Hey there,
Thanks for the question, I have only a little bit of an update, since we just got another 6" of snow here yesterday...
Over the winter, I installed some Rockout inserts (another thread with pics), and as part of the post-install testing, I ran the bike in the garage until the fans kicked on. That was the first running of that bike since finishing up the oil-filter-relocator.
No leaks, drips, or other issues to date. Filter housing gets warm when running, oil pressure reading on the screen while riding is unchanged, and all lines are still out of harm's way.
All the best,
Shane
" A Harley has never had the best oil pressure "
There a reason for that, excessive heat thinning the oil and expanding engine clearances too.
Oil pressure on my basically stock 09 TC 96" motor with 20w-50 bike oil in 85-90 deg f summer heat used to run approx 7-8psi @ idle and 35psi or so at cruise/approx 2400-2500rpm.
Only thing i did was to install an oil cooler with twin cooling fans (ULTracool) along with Wards cooling fans (mainly targets reducing head & upper cyl temp) that collectively together reduced oil temp 50deg f in summer heat.
Reducing engine oil temp 50deg f in 85-90 deg f summer heat improved/increased oil pressure to a 17-18 psi @ idle & 45-47psi @
2400-2500cruise rpm vs the much lower 7-8psi @ idle and 35psi or so at cruise/approx 2400-2500rpm oil pressure used to run before installing the 2 cooling mods that reduced oil temp 50deg f in summer heat.
Reducing oil temp 50deg f in summer heat also eliminated the detonation & valve/lifter noise along with also improving hot starts like post fueling up due to starter/battery/motor being less heat soaked, less heat hitting riders and motor now retains most of the pwr/trq & crisp throttle response it used to always loose in summer heat cond too.

The longer lines hold only what about 3 feet of tubing hold, maybe 1/4-1/2 a cup?
Regular filling after the initial changeover yielded similar dipstick readings to stock.
All the best,
Shane
Yeah, I've wondered about this too, but have decided not to spend any adrenaline on it.
When I think about your question, I'm not sure that the assumptions of lower pressure/volume are true though... In practical terms, there is more oil volume with a relocation kit. And, I'm not sure that adding a few feet of tubing alters the pressure situation at all. Since putting it on, all the rides last fall with the kit showed identical pressure readings, under the same conditions, on the info screen as when stock.
Anyhoo, not defending this as anything that anyone else should do, YMMV.
All the best,
Shane

I just did the FM 107 upgrade on my 2011 and also the rockouts. I did them on the 2008 and it went good and quiet and I am in there anyways so why not?
Again thanks for feed back !
