Stage 1 upgrade problem
Hi All,
Bought a used 04 Road King last March, and it ran great. Decided to do the stage 1 upgrade with SE pipes, all at dealer. Picked up the bike today, and immediatly noticed a little more vibration than before the upgrade, but left dealer thinking I would try it and maybe it was normal for this upgrade. After riding 2 miles and stopping at first red light, the engine stalled. Restarted ok, and a few miles latter, while downshifting from 4th to 3rd and exiting highway, engine stalled again, and would not restart until I pulled off road and used starter.
Headed back to dealer, and noticed that as engine rpm decelerated, would get a high vibration at about 1500 to 1800 rpm (aprox, no tach), and then smooth again down to idle. Same thing happened every time I reved engine. It wouls slow through a band of vibration, and then smooth down to idle.
Could this be a corrupt remap, or do you have any other thoughts?
thanks

I would think it would be more in the ignition area, like a plug. The remap could be bad, but either way, the dealer should repair it for you under warranty. They are supposed to warranty their work for longer than when you leave the lot.
Good luck.

I'm gonna bet that the dealer downloaded the wrong map.
No doubt a return to the dealer.

Guys,
Thanks for the replys.
Bike was a Fly and Ride rental that I bought with 25K miles. Well maintained and documented by the dealer. EFI . Completly stock. Now has 28K.
They will work on it today, (Wed), and I will let you know the results.

Yea sounds like a corrupt map or wrong map. I hope they fix it right for you.

Went to the dealer and they said their top mechanic rode the bike for about 25 miles, with no problems. They confirmed the right remap, and said the vibration was normal. I was not happy. I had talked to a few local guys, and took the bike to a local performance shop. Bike stalled on the way to the shop.
Talked to owner and he suggested the power commander, would dyno the bike, and give me a call. Result was that bike was really lean, lean enough to cause it to stall. Horse power went from about 62 to 67 with stage 1 only to 75 with power commander and dyno. Bike now runs great. Will have a talk with service manager at dealer Monday, but not sure what to say, or ask for for my trouble, except that their remap was crap on my bike.

If the work is under warranty and you're not satisfied with the work that they did, I would definitely go back and talk to the people that did the work. I haven't had my Harley long enough to have had any mechanical problems with it, but when they did the stage 1 on my bike, I never had any problems with it. The only problem that I had was when the wrong part was ordered and they took care of it right away and better than I expected. I think that if you give them a chance, they should make it better for you. If you are still not satisfied, then you might want to look around for a better mechanic. just my 2cts worth.
