Just for kicks I picked up a can of S100 engine brightener. I have tried other ways to return the black on my motor to the way it looked when I got it. so far I had not found anything that worked. This stuff has earned a permanent place on my work bench. I was so impressed with this stuff I can`t believe it. It is an aerosol so it just sprays on. It comes with a small extension applicator for in between the fins. Extremely easy to use and the results are great. The motor looks even better than new. I used the 8 oz. can and did both my bike and the wifes bike. It drys quickly and there is very little that gets on the chrome if you do it carefully. I highly recommend it.
Check out pig spit too. Pig spit on other parts of your bike will just shine it up real nice. I was hooked on s100 until I tried pig spit. It seems that pig spit picks up less dust. My stealer carries pig spit.

I agree 100%. I used the S100 stuff for years and swore by it. I picked up a can of Pig Spit last week. It works as good or better. Matter of fact, it smells like the same stuff. A can of it is nearly twice as large and costs several bucks less. Walmart, here, carries it.

Is pig spit for paint or for the black engine coating?
Pig spit is for the engine coating, but can be used on any part of the bike. At least that is what the can says. S100 has always been expensive, and is carried by metric dealers as well. I was actually surprised they had it at HD...
