I have a question for those who have added lower fairings to your RG or SG. Im tired of the beating my legs take from the wind on long trips. But my main question is, How do they affect airflow around the tank and air flow up into the chest area.
I get tons of air flow and buffeting from air flowing out from the bottom of the RG fairing and around the tank up into my chest and chin area. Will lower fairings help redirect some of the air that flows up around the tank?
Also, where do I get speaker pods for the lower fairings?
Put a set on my FLHX & it actually aided in cleaning up the dirty air from below. One of the best investments. Can't help w/speaker pods...I like to hear/see nature on rides. Fairing speakers are enough for my 54-yr-old ears.
I installed them on my '15 SGS. Didn't notice any change in the chest area. While riding, id put my hand out palm forward in the air stream hitting me in the chest and move hand around following the air flow. Almost all of it was coming up over the top of the tank.
I didn't realize how much of a beating my legs were taking w/o them till I pulled them off for a couple hrs. to keep them from getting damaged in case of a drop during a Adv riding course
I bought mine for the winter and longer trips and ended up only removing them once, that was 5 years ago. They really cut down on the air coming around your chest, and for me the buffeting with the 4 inch shield was better.
The speaker pods depends how much you want to spend, I went with OEM from boardtracker (kutter hd) because I like the more finished look.
Check out this set up. I put these on my road glide and it made a big difference. But I added lowers to my old street glide and will eventually add them to the road glide also.
Yes I have those deflectors. To be honest they don't to much. I rode with them for 2 years. Ive taken them off and put them back on. I cant tell they do anything at all for wind management. Waste of money if you ask me.
Have a RK with a faring. The lowers did nothing for wind coming on the sides and top of tank. Definitely like the lowers for other reasons and will leave them on year round. For buffeting and wind on sides of tank, fangs address most of that.
Added lowers this year and took off fangs. One ride and fangs were back on. Did have to tweak the fangs a tad to keep from making contact on full lock turn, all good now
I have the GADS triple tree deflector, fairing factory 14-up lowers (they came with glove boxes and speaker pods), and a Madstad windshield. All work well together. This is on a 12 SERG.
