I saw a really cool alternative in the new Kuryakn catalog. They have a chrome windsheid trim piece with the mirrors attached to it.You can even get turn signals built in. It was a nice sleek clean look, like the fairing mounts, but it brought your mirrors up higher.
I have the HD skull mirrors and really like them for looks and visibility.
I added them over the winter to my o6' Ultra.
[ul][*]They look great.[*]I did the install in about an hour - I work slow.[*]I think they give a better angle/view than stock.[*]They look great.[*]Mine do vibrate a little - more than the stock mirrors.[*]I have buddies who thought theres vibrate less than stock.[*]They look great.[/ul]
I have seen some that have a little piece of chrome that fills in the hole left after removing the stock mirrors. Anyone have a part number for that piece
I went to the dealer to get long stemmed mirrors and all they had on display were "live to ride" ones with real long stems. I asked at the counter and they had tapered chrome mirrors in the stock room. They look stock (a little cleaner look without the fasteners on the rear of the mirror) and the stems are only maybe 2" longer than stock. They look as good but are set out far enough to get a clear look behind - my elbows were in the way with the stock.

The one thing I do not like about the SG is the fairing mounted mirrors. I bought some nice custom chrome mirrors that mount to the handlebar. I then removed the fairing mounted mirrors and placed small tweaters (speakers) in the same spot the holes for the mirrors were. You can't even notice unless you get close and even then it looks and sounds cool having the tweaters there.
I have the Harley fairing mount mirrors and I love them. The do not effect my line of sight at all and have little if any vibrations. I also think they "clean" up the bike a little.
I highly recommend them!
I put them on about 6 months ago, and I love them! I actually get a better view of the road than I did with the stockers, although I can't see much directly behind me (pretty standard really).
I had the earlier version of the fairing mounted mirrors that mounted with three bolts per mirror, and now have the current version that mount with a single large bolt. With only 100+ miles with the newer version, the newer version seems to vibrate less than the earlier version. JMHO.
Put mine on my 06 standard and love them, no problem with vibration and really easy to install. Kuryakyn has a new set off mirrors that are attached to a windshield accent strip that look pretty cool also.
