On my 98 Road King Classic, there are the chrome bars that are infront of each hard leather bag. The wifey complains of the items rubbing on her legs when she rides. I didn't look real close yet, but aren't these require to support the bags? Is there an alternative? Want to keep her happy!
you can either remove them and leave the lower rails (under the bags) OR you can buy the HD replacement guards that are something like a 'low profile' and are made to provide the passenger additional leg room.
I replaced my original RK Classic bag guards with those that come on the Street Glide and Road Glide. I like the look and the bottom rail provides the needed support for the bags.
My rk customjust came stock with the bottom bar. From pics I have seen, it does look like the bottom and front rails are attached, but that should be able to be removed. You could always buy the lower, slanted bars, but removing them completely would be my suggestion.
