Ok, let's twist this topic around some. I've used nothing but Redline Shockproof Tanny oil in every Harley I've owned. I've been nothing but pleased, shift's smoother, quieter and just palin better. Now, as far as the '07 model year, Harley went with a lighter viscosity oil in the tranny, I believe thier Syntec 3 which is a 20/50. I hear the tolorance's are tighter in the new 6 speed transmissions. Because of the tighter clearance's, I'm alittle leary of going to a heavyier oil. Anyone have any input or concerns with this? Tighter tolerances require a thicker oil, hence all the whine that people are complaining about with the 07's. That's why most report that after switching to the 75-140/ 80-140/ 85-140 most if not all the whine goes away. Think about it. If you are really tight in clearance/tolerance, the thicker oil will provide more of a cushion/protection than the thinner oil. That's why most racing engines which are built on the tight side run the thicker oil.
Onmy 07 RKC I use the Amsoil SVO 74-140 and it works realy good in the new 6 speed trany. I also tried the Amsoil SVG 75-90, both work great, but I like the SVO 75-140 better. The bike shifts well and the straight cut 5th gear whine can barely be heard and gets more faint with the miles, (straight cut gears always have a little whine to them due to the cut of the gear). As the bike gets more miles on it the 5th gear whine gets less and less, can hardly hear it now (Never wasreally that bad)as I have around 2600 miles on my 07 now.
Thanks to all for the great input. I've been using 100% Amsoil products in my 110" Road Star for several years with excellent results, so I'll likely start using their oil and gear lube in the SG. I'm in Kuwait City for a couple of weeks on business and have finally found the time to look at some the postings and I'm really impressed with the quality of this forum and all the knowledgeable people who use it. My next quest is to further reduce the oil temperature on my SG to something a little more reasonable. I've already done the SE Stage I, AC, Slip-Ons, oil cooler and HD synthetic oil, but the oil temperature still gets a little too high, specifically in traffic. At 85-90 degree ambient air temperatures it's been running at 210-230 degrees on the road (moving) but has reached 240+ degrees in heavy traffic. With summer temperatures in Georgia that can reach or exceed 100 degrees, I'm still concerned about how high the oil temperature will get in traffic without some further modifications. I'm going to stop at the local HD shop in Kuwait City and see what they've be doing about the heat problems with the 96' motor. With summer temperatures that regularly reach 120+ degrees and some major traffic jams, the stock 96' motor would have a serious meltdown. It will be interesting to see how they're dealing with this issue. Thanks again. Mike

I was thinking about the same issue. The main thing is will using a heaviernot HD recommended trans oil affect the warranty?
