You would think with all the noise some of your 07's are making from the trans and primary that the deer would hear you coming miles away and avoid you altogether.

what's the best thing to do?
Hunker down close to the tank and get ready?
Slam on the brakes?
Turn hard and try to avoid it?
Jump off the bike (probably not what I would do)?
It would likely happen so fast that you have no time to think, except react.

In my opinion, the best reaction would be to take as much speed off as possible, keep the bike upright and as straight as is possible to maximise braking..... and pray.

took a ride in ocala ntl forest the other nite and them eyes were everywhere-pretty scary, even saw a bear.
Reminds me of a time near Augusta Ga along the lake/river that splits GA and SC. What was wierd about my experience was that it was a couple miles S of 295 on US 1 in Jacksonville; it is pretty populated and wasn't expecting it. Goes to show you never know! Ride safe...

I got hit by a deer around 1985 on my Yamaha Midnight Special. Deer jumped out over the first lane of trafic and hit head on into the crash bars and my leg. Instictivly kicked deer sideways off my leg. Deer spun a 180 and off to the side. Killed deer instantly. I actually stayed up and stopped a ways down the road. Got off and checked my bike, leg, and yes my shorts. Bike fared real well. Only a slight bend in the crash bar. Leg hurt like hell but not broken (thankfully it was not a buck) My shorts on the other hand [].
The real luck was that my ex wife was right behind me in my 4X4 Quadravan and if I would have gone down it was a sure bet she couldn't (or wouldn't) have stopped in time. That was a lot bigger than the deer.

HD intended this to happen. It attracts the deer to be hit. Thus more bikes need fixed or totalled
and HD makes more money.

I hit a Doe last year on opening day of dear season.I was coming out of Leaky TX around 4:30 in the afternoon. The Wife and I were in front of another bike running around 65 when she came out in front of Me from the left side of the road. She jumped a fence in a heavy wooded area and I never had time to react!I hit her right in the *** (I think) and wrapped her around the let side of the bike.My feet were on the highway pegs and when she hit the crash bar it threw my left leg around and stretched the hell out of My groin but I kept the bike up.It pushed the crash bar back about 4" and tweaked the front fender a little but that was all.The crash bar saved My leg cause she would've got Me right in the knee if it wasn't there. The only advice I can give is to try not to panic and ride through it.

For the record,I never saw her coming till she was there. You don't always have time to react!!

The only way to scare a deer is to be hunting for one, otherwise, they are everywhere when you are not hunting.

I say full steam ahead, hit them hard to punish them for deering to cross into our emvironment.....

Not the same video, but really similar. The one I saw the deer was running right to left. This one was alot longer also.
Sounds like most deer are does, were they blondes?
I don't see deer down here in Phoenix, but I do quite a bit of riding out of town, where the deer and elk are.

Get your speed down as best you can, straight arm it,then get on the gas just before impact.
That will load the rear tire and help you push through the deer.
This worked for a buddy lastspring when he hit a big old corn fed southernMichigan Doe, still has some hair pinched in between the front tire and wheel.
Since then, when ever we see deerwhile riding we always get on the gas breifly with hopes thatwhen the day comes,it will be second nature to try and ride through it.
