I bought my M8 Road Glide Special on 12/20/16.

It has 1 mile on it currently, but that all ends today with the dyno break in and tune in stock form.

Just wait then. But keep in mind, if all the improvements motor companies have been claiming were true. these bike could ride on water. Just be sure to deal hard and get 1 year depreciation off. (or walkout..they will call you back somewhere in the middle for sure) If you trade often, wait for sure since a 2016 is one year old as soon as you ride off the lot with your brand new title.

Perhaps broadening your search would help, including looking at smaller dealers who don't move as much product. These tend to be more customer service oriented anyway IMO. The basic law of supply and demand, reduce supply and price goes up provided demand is there. A reduction in production to me is a short-sighted strategy, as a company they should want as many bikes on the road as possible. More coming in for service and buying accessories.

My local dealer is not real big but they have a good selection of 2017 bikes. Maybe 12 to 15 at least with only 3 or 4 remaining 2016's.

Area that I am in is opposite, but is the largest city in the southeast. Very few 16's and plenty of 17's. I know my local dealer moved some 17's, nothing substantial, however it is the fall/winter season here. And there are deals to be had on the 17 because nobody is flooding dealerships, at least around here for them. I've been told there has been way more curiosity, than sales. I own a 17 and like it, very refined. But I can tell you that I just can't afford to buy a new touring bike every 4-5 years anymore. It's purely a recreational vehicle for me. And the prices keep getting higher.

This was all layed out at the big dealers convention last year, they are calling it " Bringing value back to the brand name ". Look for dealers to be closing in the next year also .
My dealer has gotten all but one or two 2016's off the floor and are fully stocked with 2017's. Seems like each model is represented with more than one color scheme. And not just M8's. Saw a nice Breakout (both CVO and the matte grey scheme). Many of their M8's get sold before they make it to the floor but many bikes are being delivered because there is no shortage of eye candy. I have heard HD cut production, but might be a rumor, don't know. I will say, there are too many dealers around anyway, let the strong survive.

You can always shop any dealer in the country but you will have to travel there to buy it (I believe). At least my dealer requires you to show up in person to close the deal. Want to make sure there is real person behind the emails. Then have the service done locally.

I can't say that I know what the moco's marketing plan is but my local deal has 6 '17s on the showroom floor as of this weekend.
They are making pretty good deals on '16s now to move them though

Smaller Dealers with excess 2016 inventory will keep 2017's off the floor trying to move last year bikes. That also lets them get MSRP on the 2017 that they somehow come up with.

Harley did cut production for 17, and really cut it a lot on the CVO models.

The dealer I work with is one of the top dealers, and he has only had 5 touring bike CVO's for 17, not a one hit the floor. Usually by January he has sold 12 to 14 CVO's. He could sell more now, as I know people waiting he just is not getting as many due to cut backs in production.

He also has maybe 15 17 M8 bikes on the floor now. In Sept and Oct, he had none. He is complaining he is not getting enough of them also.
