I am very close to purchasing a new 07 SG. I am coming off of a 05 Fatboy. I also have a 07 Streetbob. I have read a lot of threads about the excessive heat from the 07's. The Bob runs a little hot but certainly not excessive. My question is, Should the heat issue on the SG be a big concern? Is it fixable? I don't want to go from my Fatboy to SG if I am going to have a bunch of headaches and costly cures. Please let me know what you think.
I dunno, to me the heat is only an issue if you're not moving. even then, not that big of one (to me.) It's fixable with fuel tuners and other add-ons from what I've read...but I personally wouldn't go that route just because of the heat. If you want more power, then go for it.
I had theSERT/SEAC and Rush Slip On's installed prior to delivery. Onlybeef I have is crappy gas mileage (32 mpg city, 38-40 highway). Only heat issues I have is if I'm stuck in traffic, that's par for the course with an air cooled engine of course. I hear of other owner with trans noise issues also, not a problemfor me either.
Go for it!! you won't be dissapointed with the Street Glide.
I had an 05 fatboy, I have an 06 Street Bob and an 07 SG. You're not going to have any problems. The SG is so much better than my Fatboy. Yeah its a wee bit hotter in traffic but bearable. You don't have to fix it. But if you did want to, you can fix that with a PCIII with a base map. Cost 298.00 total.
It's when you do pipes, A/C etc that the price really starts adding up. But if you're like most people....you were going to do that anyway...
Theheat issue is not that big a deal. Its just because they run so lean and is easily fixed with a fuel manager. The 5th gear whine and compensator clatter is much more of a problem to me. I love my SG, but if I knew then what I know now, I might think twice before buying. Seems like a lot of people say they have no issues. You might get lucky.
I dont find the heat to be a issue. After all, its an aircooled engine. I run amsoil and it lowers the inside temps and thats all im concerned about anyway. I amwanting a SERT, but they are still on backorder. I am currently running with just thedownload that the dealed put on when they installed my stage II 103" kit. I'msureI could run a lil cooler with a SERT or PCIII or some other type of FI control but I honestly will only be doing that to help the engine, because to me hot is still hot andnothing I do is gonna make my bike feelcooler to me when riding in traffic on a hot day.I can handle the outside temps, since I dont do parades and stuff like that. I also dont have a problem with any so called excessive tranny noises. I feel my 07 Ultra is the cream of the crop and best of allits a Harley,... its not supposed to sound like a Honda.
The heat issue can be taken care of,but will cost you above bikes purchase price.Cheap insurance for an 07.The 5th gear whine does seem to fade w/more mileage.Heavier fluids in tranny will dampen noise yet may not let gearing seat in.Run what HD installs for first 1000 miles before going to different fluids.Exh is suppose to be louder for 07 but I didnt think so.Changing exh and AC is rcommended along with fueling upgrade for best results-more from your pocket, insurance just went up again but worth it.Now for the clatter,Hd still cant rid all builds from this. Some newly released models still have this complaint. And if you get one of these, nothing will be done.Just look at when some of these posts started.HDs C/S will be of no use,you will be the first one they ever heard of.Dealer will probably tell you he has never had a bike sold that experienced this noise. He also will do nothing for you,nor his area rep.If you can take this chance and/or live with this noise if you get one,do so.These bikes are very nice and seem to holding up so far w/only minor issues, but dont expect it to be perfect w/o some extras.
i do not have a 07....but if i was you i would wait for 08....i do not care wether it is a bike ,truck or car...any time they have major changes to a engine or trans,,,they seem to have bugs,,that need to be worked out...i was going to buy a new bike & wait for 08...but found a 05 ultra..decked out with a 6 speed baker trans...for a good price...& at the end of the year do either a 95 or 98 kit....good luck to you.
